According to the London Economist, this week, the second week of April, 2025, the global financial system came within a few hours of blowing apart. On Monday of this week, the president of the United States announced the implementation of tariffs on dozens of nations. Immediately, the stock markets around the world plunged. But that was to be expected. What was not expected was the sell-off in the bond market, driving up interest rates on the 140 trillion dollar debt market. Usually, the stock and bond markets go in opposite directions. If one goes up, the other goes down. Not this week, though. Apparently, President Trump’s advisors informed him that if he didn’t wish to collapse the dollar system, he had better roll back the tariffs immediately, some of which he promptly did, though doubling down on China.

So, the debt-bloated money system did not implode this week. Needless to say, though, a system so fragile that it almost immediately crashed because of the announcement of tariffs could not possibly endure an unexpected shock such as war, such as an attack on Iran as Trump is threatening.

I have a special interest in the near collapse of the dollar system, not because I am concerned about my money or anything like that. About 29 years ago, I understood that certain Bible prophecies had foretold the sudden downfall of the present Anglo-American dual-world power.

Of course, the 13th chapter of Revelation describes a seven-headed wild beast that suffers a seemingly fatal blow to one of its heads but miraculously comes back to life.

The Watchtower even understands this to represent the Anglo-American duo. However, Jehovah’s Witnesses have been taught that the head of the beast suffered this mortal blow as a result of the First World War. Evidently, it was inconsequential as there is no evidence that the British Empire or the United States suddenly collapsed.

The book of Ezekiel foretells this same event in much more graphic detail. As we know, Jesus taught by means of illustrations. And Jesus humbly explained that he learned from his Father. So, it is no surprise that Jehovah teaches us through the prophets by means of illustrations. For example, in the 31st chapter of Ezekiel, Jehovah likened Egypt to a giant cedar tree. God said it was grander than any other tree in the garden of tree-like nations. But God gave the order to chop it down and its downfall rocked the earth.

God reveals, though, that the massive cedar tree does not really represent Egypt. That is because the fulfillment of the prophecy is earmarked for the appointed time for God to judge all the nations, beginning with the greatest nation first. This is what will occur when Jesus actually comes. This is confirmed by the Sovereign Lord Jehovah in the opening words of the 30th chapter: “Wail, ‘Alas, the day is coming!’ For the day is near, yes, a day of Jehovah is near. It will be a day of clouds, an appointed time of nations.”

There is only one day of Jehovah. When Babylon served as Jehovah’s appointed executioner and destroyer of nations, including Egypt, it was only Jehovah’s day in that it prefigures the actual day of Jehovah. And no, Armageddon is not the day of Jehovah. The war of the great day of God Almighty is the conclusion of the day of Jehovah.

If you look at prophecy as a whole, we ought to understand that Jesus’ coming as a thief in the night commences the day of Jehovah—or, as it is alternatively called—the day of the Lord, or simply the Lord’s day.

The prophet Paul informed the Thessalonians that the day of the Lord, or Jehovah’s day, was coming exactly as a thief in the night and would commence whenever it is they are saying “peace and security.”

What, then, is the “sudden destruction” that will immediately follow? It must be the crash of the Anglo-American world power. What will cause this unexpected destruction? War. And financial collapse.

By the way, there are diplomatic discussions taking place to bring an end to the proxy war against Russia, as well as talks between American negotiators and Iran in an effort to avoid an all-out conflict. However, simultaneous with the talk of peace, preparations are underway for war. France and Britain seem hellbent on going to war with Russia, while the US is threatening to obliterate Iran and go to war with China to prevent its rise to the status of a global power. Presumably, they will be saying “peace and security” prior to the outbreak of what will surely be called World War Three.

The Great Illustrator has recorded some rather grizzly imagery illustrating the terrible end of the antitypical Egypt. The 32nd chapter of Ezekiel paints a horrifying word picture of a beast being captured, gutted, and its blood gushing everywhere. God says: “You were like a strong young lion of the nations, but you have been silenced. You were like a sea monster, thrashing about in your rivers, muddying the waters with your feet and fouling the rivers.” — Ezekiel 32:2

The beast of Revelation is said to arise from the sea. Each of the heads has a mouth like a lion’s mouth. God goes on to say: “By means of an assembly of many nations, I will cast my net over you, and they will haul you up in my dragnet. I will abandon you on the land; I will cast you onto the open field. I will cause all the birds of the sky to settle on you, and I will satisfy the wild beasts of the whole earth with you. I will cast your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains. I will drench the land with your gushing blood up to the mountains, and it will fill the streams.” — Ezekiel 32:3-6

Jehovah’s Dragnet is the massive debt obligation of the U.S. It is no secret that the United States is virtually bankrupt. Besides the astronomical debt approaching $40 trillion, the annual interest alone is about one trillion dollars. A slight increase in interest rates, as has begun this week, would quickly render the greatest nation in the world insolvent. The fact that many nations hold U.S. treasury debt means that those creditors can foreclose on the federal government. Doesn’t the prophecy of Daniel speak to this very thing, which foretells the king of the north will rule over the gold and hidden treasures of Egypt during the time of the end? You do not still imagine the defunct USSR fulfilled the prophecy by supposedly forcing America to spend excessively on armaments, do you?

Jehovah offers another illustration: “And when you are extinguished I will cover the heavens and darken their stars. I will cover the sun with clouds, and the moon will not give its light. I will darken all the shining luminaries in the heavens because of you, and I will cover your land with darkness,’ declares the Sovereign Lord Jehovah.” (7&8)

Jesus most certainly learned from his Father, as the Lord used this very same imagery when speaking of the foreboding crisis that would envelop the world during the great tribulation.

The dollar-based financial system is on the precipice of the greatest financial crash in history. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is pressing for peace while threatening war. All nations appear to be preparing accordingly. Something has got to give—and soon!

All indications are that the day of Jehovah is very near.
