A comment on the opening paragraphs of the September 2026 Watchtower article titled: Trust in Jehovah for Protection.
The opening sentence states:
We are living in the last of the last days. Earthshaking events will soon occur.
No, we are not living in the last days; or, if we are, they have just recently begun. The renewed conflict between the erstwhile allies — the American king of the south and the London-based empire, the king of the north — appears to be the foretold “pushing” that marks the beginning of the time of the end. If you are not really paying attention, you will not discern what is happening, but President Trump is nullifying the so-called Anglo-American Special Relationship and suspending London’s rules-based order. He is destroying the narco terrorist networks that are the backbone of London’s control. Trump is overturning the globalists’ free trade system and imposing tariffs and renewing the American system of economy. He is closing the borders to the flood of invaders that are destroying Europe. In response, the feckless leaders of the UK and the EU are preparing to go to war with Russia to prevent Putin and Trump from establishing any sort of alliance.
Rest assured, though, the tumultuous concluding period will not extend over decades, as the Watchtower’s last days have. The fact that the Governing Body is compelled to resort to expressions such as “the last of the last days” is a backhanded acknowledgment that, because the Watchtower’s last days have dragged on for so long, spanning multiple generations, the term has become meaningless to Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Since the Watchtower repeats ad nauseam that we are living in the last days, I am compelled to continue pointing out an overlooked fact: the prophet Paul did not foretell that men would become lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, and all the rest during the last days. The slow but steady degradation of Western society over the past century, which has accelerated in recent years, is not a characteristic of the last days. The last days will be critical times, hard to deal with, because people will have already become debased and wicked. That is the present state of society. If you think otherwise and you are an older person, simply ask yourself: Were people this bad 60 years ago? Obviously not. How about 50 years ago? No. How then could the 50s, 60s, 70s, etc, have been the last days, critical times hard to deal with?
There is no question that earthshaking events will occur, probably sooner than later. Given current trends, more and more people are coming to that realization. Another world war would certainly be an earthshaking event. So would global financial collapse. An epic global disaster is not an unrealistic scenario. And as an awake son of light may expect, simultaneous with London’s maniacal drive for war with Russia, Donald Trump is on a mission to bring peace and security. Is it really that hard to connect the dots?
But let’s be honest: According to the Watchtower, the world has been experiencing “earthshaking events” since 1914. Has not the prophecy of Haggai been interpreted so as to apply to the past 100 years? “For this is what Jehovah of armies says, ‘Yet once more—in a little while—and I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all the nations, and the precious things of all the nations will come in; and I will fill this house with glory,’ says Jehovah of armies.
So, if God is already shaking the heavens and the earth, why ought we expect more earthshaking events to soon occur? Also, didn’t Jesus forewarn that the powers of the heavens would be shaken? What might that entail? Sadly, Jehovah’s Witnesses have no idea what earthshaking events are going to occur soon.
Consider the real significance of the opening of the sixth seal. What will occur with its opening? Read it: “And I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and a great earthquake occurred; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the entire moon became as blood, and the stars of heaven fell to the earth as when a fig tree shaken by a high wind drops its unripe figs. And the heaven departed as a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and every island was removed from its place.”
Doesn’t that sound like apocalyptic symbolism betokening earthshaking events? The problem is—at least for the leadership of Jehovah’s Witnesses—they claim the sixth seal was opened along with the other seals during the First World War. If that were true, then why haven’t the symbolic heavenly luminaries gone into eclipse and every institutional mountain been rocked from its place?
What’s more, Jesus used the very same symbolism, even placing the events post-tribulation, saying: “Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
Reasoning on the Scriptures as we are exhorted to do, since the great tribulation has not begun, neither has the sun and moon been darkened. That means the sixth seal, representing the great tribulation, has not been opened. Since no such apocalyptic cataclysm has occurred, it is more reasonable to conclude that the seven seals of the scroll revealing the things to come have not been unsealed—none of them. And that changes everything.
The next sentence in the first paragraph states:
Jehovah will put into the hearts of the nations “his thought” —that they give “their kingdom to the wild beast,” the United Nations. (Rev. 17:17) Then that greatly empowered beast, along with the full cooperation of all political powers, will remove the world’s false religious organizations once and for all. (Rev. 17:16) That event will mark the start of the great tribulation. Then what?
As a side note, there seems to be a religious revival taking place, at least in the United States. Years ago, brothers used to point to dwindling church attendance and say something like, ‘The waters of Babylon are drying up.’ You don’t hear that anymore. Why is that?
This September 2026 Watchtower is quite timely, though. In Kingdom Bulletin #28, which is being sent to overseers around the world along with a copy of Jehovah Has Become King, I challenge the Governing Body or any knowledgeable Christian to supply the scriptures, or even just one, to support the oft-repeated assertion that the destruction of Babylon the Great “will mark the start of the great tribulation.” Right on cue, the September magazine claims that the destruction of Babylon the Great will mark the start of the great tribulation and offers no supporting scripture.
As everyone who wishes can see for themselves, the two cited verses in Revelation do not support the Watchtower’s assertion. There is simply nothing in the 17th chapter of Revelation to connect the event to the tribulation. It is sheer dogmatism. And as noted above, the opening of the 6th seal betokens earthshaking tribulation.
The Watchtower’s credibility is at stake. The fact that the organizational prophet makes such bold statements without any scriptural support ought to be concerning. But the die is cast. The future will tell the tale.
But really, it involves more than the Governing Body’s credibility. Your faith will be tested. If you are a mere follower of the Watchtower and have no real faith in His word or in the power of God, you will stumble when earthshaking events commence and the expectations the Watchtower has cultivated prove false.
