Since the improbable election of Donald Trump developments are rapidly coming together. Although the nations are still preparing for war, evidenced by Russia’s recent move to place nuclear missiles in Kaliningrad —a Russian exclave bordered by the Baltic, Poland and Lithuania — President-elect Trump is already moving to bring a swift end to the ongoing war in Syria and Iraq.
According to Sputnik, through his newly appointed national security adviser Trump is already secretly directing the military to prepare in a joint operation with Turkey and Russia to wipe out Daesh. We can assume that shortly after his inauguration the United States military will begin a new era of cooperation with Putin’s Russia.
Not only that, but Donald Trump, whose ego is not known to be bounded by anything, wishes to be the one to bring the long-elusive peace to the Middle East —at least peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Again, even before his inauguration as the official president of the U.S.A. Trump has named his Jewish Orthodox son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as a special envoy tasked to bring the two parties together. (Coincidently, this same Jared Kushner is among the developers who recently purchased several buildings from the Watchtower.)
It appears that Israel is signaling that it is ready for some kind of peace agreement too, as Prime Minister, Netanyahu, said he is looking forward to working with President-elect Donald Trump “to further the twin interests of peace and security.”
Do these sudden developments mean that world war has been averted? On the contrary. A prophetic precursor to the sudden destruction is “whenever it is they are saying ‘peace and security.’”
Of course, Jehovah’s Witnesses suppose that the sudden destruction that ensues has to do with Armageddon, but that is not the case.
According to Paul their saying peace and security initiates the day of Jehovah, which is coming as unexpectedly a thief in the night. Jesus also used that same analogy. Only in the 12th chapter of Luke Jesus indicated that his coming as a thief leads to his dressing himself for service and coming alongside his disciples in order to minister to them. His coming alongside them is the parousia, which literally means coming alongside. (See the Mailbag entry on Jehovah’s day coming as a thief in the night)
In short, “whenever they are saying ‘peace and security,’” then we can expect the sudden outbreak of global war, along with all the rest, which is what Christ foretold would serve as a sign of his coming and ultimate presence.
