Deaden . . . your body members . . . as respects sexual immorality, uncleanness, uncontrolled sexual passion.Col. 3:5.

The word “deaden” indicates that we must take strong measures to fight against immoral fleshly desires. We will avoid anything that might arouse in us sexual desire for someone other than our mate. As we conform our lives to God’s will, we learn to “abhor what is wicked” and “cling to what is good.” The new personality reflects “the image of the One who created it,” Jehovah himself. What blessings result when husbands and wives fortify their moral defenses by clothing themselves “with the tender affections of compassion, kindness, humility, mildness, and patience”!  They also enjoy greater marital harmony when they “let the peace of the Christ control

COMMENTARY

It is very strange. Sounds like science fiction. But it’s not. Not too long ago creatures from another world came to earth. Their purpose? Sex. They materialized as men, no doubt very handsome men, and they took as many wives as they wanted. And the result was they propagated a freakish species —hybrid monstrosities called the Nephilim.

Those creatures that came to earth were actually angels from Heaven who had rebelled against God. But Jehovah overpowered them, causing the vast subterranean ocean to explode upward and the heavenly ocean suspended high above the earth to collapse. The earth was inundated and the lustful angels were forced to dissolve their flesh and return to the spirit world where they belonged.

But as spirits those angels-turned-demons still exert great influence over people. They really are the rulers of this world. And they know that just as Jehovah wiped out their world once before, Christ is going to destroy the world they dominate now.

The intent of the demons is to take as many with them as they can. Particularly they seek to corrupt the sons of God. They want revenge for God having destroyed their harems and sons. That is why the world under their control is thoroughly saturated with sex and perversion of every kind.

Deadening our bodies makes us immune to their temptations. God’s commands are for our salvation.
