QUESTION: “Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.” —Matthew 24:29-31

Now, all these events take place just after the tribulation had finished and just before Armageddon! Now when Jesus comes, he will have great power and glory! Is he a King at this point in the stream of things, as the following scripture says his angels will gather the chosen ones together i.e. the anointed will all go to heaven?

My question is this, if Jesus was made king in 1914, what has he been doing for 100yrs? Also, would his first act as king is riding into battle at Armageddon? Would it be right to think that Jesus becomes king then?

ANSWER: Jesus did not become king in 1914. The fact that Jehovah’s Witnesses ardently believe it does not make it true. It is, in fact, evidence that Jehovah’s Witnesses are under a “deluding influence.” However, God’s allowance for the delusion occurs immediately before Jesus returns.

But, the Watchtower is correct about the sequence of events. When Jesus becomes the King the first thing that will happen is war will erupt in heaven. Christ and his angels will battle Satan and his angels. The demons will lose and be forced out of heaven. They will then go into a rampage on earth, blowing up their system in order to disrupt the work of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The world will be plunged into chaos and darkness, which is what Jesus was foretelling when he spoke of the sun going dark and the moon not giving its light and the stars falling from heaven. During that bleak period the angels will separate the wicked from the righteous. Then the nations will be allowed to eliminate the earthly sons of the kingdom, which will bring on the final war at the symbolic battlefield known as Armageddon.

At that point all enemies of the kingdom will have been eliminated and Jesus and the 144,000 will begin to rule.
