Please kindly explain Gog of Magog, King of the North and Babylon the great. Do they all mean the same thing?

There are subtle differences, but similarities. Two of the entities have been around a long time, since before the time of Christ; that being the king of the north and Babylon the Great. Gog of Magog comes on the scene in the final part of the days, but is the same as the king of the north only in a different role.

The kings of the north and south derived from the breakup of Alexander the Great’s empire. The king of the north was Syria and the king of the south was Egypt. Geographically Syria was north of Israel and Egypt south. In time Rome absorbed both Syria and Egypt and there was no king of the south —only the Roman king of the north. Historians have various dates for the fall of Rome. However, the Vatican picked up where imperial Rome left off —ruling over the many fiefdoms of Europe. In time the British Empire emerged and in my view is the present king of the north.

As regards Babylon the Great, the book of Revelation propounds a riddle regarding the identity of the harlot. Revelation 17:9-11 states: “This calls for a mind that has wisdom: The seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top. And there are seven kings: Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet arrived; but when he does arrive, he must remain a short while. And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also an eighth king, but it springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction.”

The seven mountains correspond to the seven heads of the symbolic wild beast. (Mountains or hills are used in the Bile to symbolize governments of kingdoms. For example, God’s Kingdom is represented by Mount Zion.) Four of those ruling heads were prior to Alexander; namely, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, and Persia. In any case, the prostitute has sat on top of all those kingdoms. Babylon the Great is a religious empire, which has dominated the political kings. That is evident from the collapse of imperial Rome, which, as stated above, led to the Vatican wielding absolute power —deciding who shall rule and who to depose.

Now, the verse cited above mentions the eighth king that springs from the seven. While the Watchtower claims the eighth king was originally the League of Nations, that simply cannot be true. I have debunked that teaching in a number of articles and videos. The reason the League could not have been the scarlet-colored beast is because the emergence of the eighth king initiates judgment day. People who obey the beast or who admire it are stamped with the symbolic 666 indelible mark of doom. It is absurd to suppose that mankind has already been doomed to everlasting death because of their supposed relationship to the long-since-defunct League of Nations.

The eighth king has not come on the scene yet. It will be something different than anything we have seen heretofore —likely a communistic world government, perhaps administered by a revamped United Nations. In any case, in the vision of Revelation, the harlot is pictured as sitting on the back of the eighth king too. So, we may expect some sort of reconfigured world religion to go with the world government. By the way, just the other day the pope called for the end of national sovereignty and the implementation of global governance under the guise of better cooperation to fight against the new global warming boogieman. That is a good example of how a religious authority commits prostitution with the kings of the earth, or at least with some of the kings who are intent on destroying the nation-state system and getting back to the feudal era.

The book of Daniel reveals that the king of the north will subjugate his rival, the king of the south, during the epic period known as the time of the end, also called the final part of the days. The king of the north comes all the way to his end and will be annihilated by Michael, who is Jesus.

Now, as regards Gog of Magog, since this entity also comes on the scene during the final part of the days when he attacks God’s possession, Gog must coincide with the king of the north after the king of the south has been taken out. (The king of the south representing America) Interestingly, Gog and his hoards are depicted as coming from the remotest parts of the north, that is to say from the king of the north. And just as Gog attacks a seemingly defenseless “Israel,” the king of the north also plants his palatial tent in God’s territory, “between the grand sea and the holy mountain of Decoration.”

So, Gog is the 8th king —the final manifestation of the king of the north, after he has disposed of Babylon the Great, at which point he will be drawn into war with God Almighty at the place known as Armageddon.
