A former Pennsylvania man remained jailed Monday after his weekend arrest in a disturbance at a church on North Valley Mills Drive.

Police were called about a disturbance at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2308 N. Valley Mills Drive, about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officers encountered Brian Gerald Oatman, 43, who previously had been asked to leave the church because he was distrupting a meeting, said Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton.

Oatman left, but returned. Police reported he broke into a car, grabbed a tire tool and started breaking car windows and damaging cars.

Elders from the church confronted him and Swanton said he cut one man’s hand with a bottle opener and pushed another to the ground, causing abrasions on his knees.

Police took Oatman into custody, charging him with two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of criminal mischief and burglary of a motor vehicle.

Oatman remained jailed Monday in lieu of bonds totaling $51,000.

Swanton said Oatman has an outstanding warrant in Pennsylvania for a parole violation.
