A King Fierce in Countenance

A king fierce in countenance - the last king

A king fierce in countenance - the last king

It has been said that the best way to hide something is to conceal it within plain view. What is that supposed to mean? As regards God's Word, it means that if we assume that we understand a certain thing, when in reality we do not, then we are not going to be as receptive to the truth when it presents itself, since we imagine that we already know it. By that means, then, Jehovah is able to conceal from us within plain view as it were, whatever he wishes.

As an example, such was the case with the apostles of Christ. Even though Jesus explained to them that he was going to be put to death Luke 9:45 says: “But they continued without understanding of this saying. In fact, it was concealed from them that they might not see through it, and they were afraid to question him about this saying.”

In connection with the book of Daniel, the prophet was told by Jehovah's enlightening angel: "And as for you, O Daniel, make secret the words and seal up the book, until the time of the end. Many will rove about, and the true knowledge will become abundant."

Contrary to the Watchtower’s teaching, the time of the end has not yet begun and consequently the book of Daniel is still officially sealed. But because Jehovah's Witnesses imagine that the time of the end has already commenced, long ago back in 1914, they have no reliable reference point in prophecy. (See article: Who is Blind?)

The truth of the matter is, the time of the end has to do with the culmination – a relatively short period of time that segues into the great tribulation. It most definitely does not extend over decades and certainly not a century. Daniel 12:6 poses the question one angel asked of another. It reads: "How long will it be to the end of the wonderful things?" The other angel responded, saying: "It will be for an appointed time, appointed times, and a half. And as soon as there will have been a finishing of the dashing of the power of the holy people to pieces, all these things will come to their finish."

What “things will come to their finish”? Well, the entire book of Daniel is a series of "wonderful things" - astoundingly accurate prophecies that reveal in great detail the political developments beginning in the pre-Christian era that lead up to the end of the entire global civilization that has dominated and tyrannized the world for the last few thousand years. When the appointed time, times, and half a time expire, then God's kingdom will be in complete control of all of earth's affairs and a peaceful new system will have begun.

The time is coming when Jehovah's Witnesses will be forced to confront the delusion that the relatively minor hardships that the handful of Bible Students experienced back in 1918 - or any time since then - was the beginning of the time of the end and the fulfillment of the prophecies that call for the holy ones to be brought to ruin. The prophecies of the time of the end lay ahead of us - not behind. The prophecy clearly reveals that immediately following the allotted period of time when God's people are brought to ruin (also known as the time of the end), that then is the end of all the things that Daniel had foretold. In other words, it is the end of this wicked world. Besides, how can it possibly be true but “the wonderful things” have come to their end?

Strangely, for all the commentary that the Watchtower Society has offered on the book of Daniel, very little has been written about the king fierce in countenance.  Up to this point the Society has identified the king as being the Anglo-American combine. But even worse, they have come to the unjustifiable conclusion that much of the prophecy was fulfilled back during the Second World War. And supposedly the “holy place” was brought into its right condition when the Society’s charter was amended to make for a more theocratic organization.

JF Rutherford challenges the world to face the facts

JF Rutherford challenges the world to face the facts

Bethel seems to have overlooked the fact that the prophecy says that the holy ones are brought to ruin during a period described as "a freedom from care." By no stretch of the imagination could the period of the Second World War and the Nazi Holocaust be described as a period when the world enjoyed "a freedom from care." Besides, it would seem to be a gross exaggeration of the plain facts to say that Jehovah's Witnesses were brought to ruin in America or within the realm of the British Commonwealth of Nations during WWII. Who else besides Jehovah's Witnesses would believe such a thing? (Ironically, the few tens of thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses back on the eve of World War Two appear to have been better informed regarding world conditions than the millions of Jehovah’s Witnesses now. Here is a YouTube recording of a convention talk given by J.F. Rutherford in 1938 entitled: Face the Facts.)

But, indulging in “a freedom from care” seems to perfectly describe the Western world at this particular point in time - a world obviously totally self-absorbed with its own amusements and pursuits and oblivious to reality. If for no other reason than the obvious inconsistency mentioned above, Jehovah's Witnesses should want to re-examine the prophecy of Daniel.

As an aside, it should be noted that the 7th chapter of Daniel refers to a prophetic period expressed as "a time, times, half a time," or 3 ½ times, which the 12th chapter of Daniel also refers to in slightly different terms. Revelation, the 11th and 12th chapters, equates this period with a literal 42 months and 1,260 days as well, or three and a half years. Yet, Daniel the 8th chapter makes reference to a period of mornings and evenings, totaling 2,300. It may be possible to harmonize these two periods in that one day as composed of one morning and one evening; hence, 2,300 mornings and evenings is another way of saying 1,150 actual days, which is similar to the period of 1,260 days of the time, times, and half a time. It is also more closely within the time frame of the 1,290 and 1,335 day periods mentioned in the 12th chapter of Daniel. (See also article: Regarding Times and Seasons)

But, before more closely considering the angel's explanation of a king fierce in countenance, as contained in the span of verses from Daniel 8:23-25, take note of the harmony of the four prophecies of Daniel that deal with the advent of God's kingdom.

Beginning in the 2nd chapter of Daniel with the simple prophecy of the metallic image of Nebuchadnezzar's dream, the prophecies become increasingly more detailed; ending with the three-page chronicle of the king of the north and king of the south. However, from the simplest to the most complex, each vision ends the exact same way; in that, all four prophecies abruptly conclude with a singular political agency being directly vanquished by Christ.

For example, the Watchtower has merely assumed that the king of the south is on hand when Michael stands up to destroy the king of the north. What Bethel has failed to take note of is that there is no further mention of the king of the south beyond the point when the king of the north floods over into all the lands and subjugates “Egypt.” The detailed prophecy of the king of the north and king of the south ends with a single king – the king of the north – who comes all the way to his end with no helper to intervene for him. Surely, it is no mere oversight on the part of the angel who outlined history in such detail to have omitted any mention of the king of the south.

Besides that, since the disbanding of the Soviet Union 20-years ago the Governing body have been forced to admit they have no idea who the king of the north is now, even though we are supposedly ‘deep into the time of the end.’

As regards the 2nd chapter of Daniel, the metallic colossus with the head of gold, breasts of silver, belly of copper, supported on the legs of iron and feet of iron mixed with clay, represents a single composite kingdom that is ultimately shattered by God's kingdom. That is in keeping with the singular king of the north and a singular king fierce in countenance who are annihilated by Michael, the prince.

Until recently the Watchtower had interpreted the iron and clay to symbolize an indistinct "politically divided world." However, in the June 15th 2012, Watchtower Magazine, Bethel revised their view so as to recognize the iron and clay to symbolize a specific political entity – the Anglo-American duo. Although Jehovah’s Witnesses may not realize it, as with the recent revision regarding a future judgment of the “slave class,” the Watchtower has adopted the view expounded by e-watchman for the past decade.

(Inexplicably, though, the same Watchtower article [linked to above] still propounds the preposterous tale that the three horns plucked out of the wild beast by the small ascending horn was fulfilled in the 17th century, during the days of wooden sailing ships! – See article: The Spanish Armada or World War III? . To underscore the harmony of Daniel the king of the north subjugates “Egypt,” the original king of the south and also its historic allies – Libya and Ethiopia. That trio – Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia – likely correspond with the three horns that are plucked out. That same event – still future – is likely also what is betokened in Revelation with the sword-stroke upon the head of the seven-headed beast. Also, the two-horned beast that arises from the earth pictures the Anglo-American duo arising from the abyss after their collapse.)

The image itself represents the 8th king

The image itself represents the 8th king

But as regards the metallic image, since it would seem to be in inverted order, with the feet of iron and clay upon which the image stands symbolizing the most recent world powers, the question ought to be asked: What does the image itself represent?

As the Watchtower recognizes, Revelation depicts the two-horned Anglo-American beast fabricating an image that it will eventually coerce the world into worshipping. Also, in the 17th chapter of Revelation the image that comes to life is portrayed as being an 8th king, which is a composite of the remnants of seven previous empires. Again, to preserve the harmony of prophecy, Jehovah’s Witnesses must eventually come to recognize the symbolic metal image of Daniel represents the 8th king.

However, we should not assume that the prophecy is describing the relatively powerless UN institution of the present moment or that people have already received the mark of the beast, as Jehovah’s Witnesses have been led to believe. (See article: Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mark of the Beast)

Instead, the prophecies are most assuredly foretelling future developments reserved for “the time of the end,” when the present ordering of nation-states will be violently overturned and the United Nations will be catapulted into the position of the only truly global government that will ever have existed. To be sure, the UN is presently capable of functioning as a global government. All that is needed is a global calamity. Consider the following quote from the John Birch Society’s New American Magazine from a few months ago:

Similarly blatant calls for empowering the United Nations could be cited ad infinitum. But the fact is that the empowerment is already well under way. Much of the superstructure and infrastructure for the physical edifice of a world government already have been built. The United Nations’ official organizational chart and the world map (below) give an ominous inkling of the global leviathan that is already in place. But only an inkling; it actually vastly understates the magnitude of the organizational sprawl of the UN worldwide, since it merely shows the locations of the headquarters offices of the main UN agencies and only a few of the many regional offices or field operations of these agencies.

With that eventuality in mind we are now in a position to anticipate how the prophecy of the king fierce countenance may yet unfold.

An angel appears to Daniel

An angel appears to Daniel

The angel explained to Daniel that the “king fierce in countenance” arises from competing factions that had their origin with the breakup of Alexander's Grecian Empire. Daniel the 8th chapter does not cover any of the detailed history that the 11th chapter relates but it is noteworthy that they both begin from the time of Alexander's death. Daniel 8:23 picks up the final developments of the ongoing struggle for supremacy. It reads: "And in the final part of their kingdom, as the transgressors act to a completion, there will stand up a king fierce in countenance and understanding ambiguous sayings."

"The final part of their kingdom" evidently refers to the Anglo-American dual world power. True to history, it is an established fact that the modern world of extended European civilization can trace its cultural and philosophical roots back to ancient Greece. Paradoxically, the two antagonistic systems of today embodied in the Anglo-American system both had their origin in ancient Greece. While Greece is known as the "cradle of democracy" and republicanism, Alexander's empire is also the forerunner of the Roman, Venetian and British empires as well.

However, let the history student be informed that Great Britain and the United States are historic enemies. The two kings have openly fought two wars outright – the original struggle for independence and the War of 1812. Also, a little known fact is that Great Britain supported the Confederacy during the Civil War in an attempt to divide and conquer its wayward colony. (See article: King of the North)

This striving of two competing kingdoms and ideologies is in harmony with what is also revealed in Daniel concerning the struggle between the kings of the north and south and explains the incompatible iron and clay amalgam that does not stick together. It perfectly symbolizes the modern Anglo-American dyad, which is the uneasy alliance of imperialism and republicanism. But, as noted previously, one force wins out. Apparently "the king of fierce countenance" is the champion of the empire.

"There will stand up a king fierce in countenance and understanding ambiguous sayings"

In recent years various terms have come into use, like globalization, new world order, free trade, global governance and internationalism, and slogans like, "think globally and act locally," and expressions referring to the global village, and so on. Our modern lexicon has many somewhat ambiguous terms related to globalism. But, what exactly is the new world order anyway? What is globalization really all about?

Many observers have come to understand that the ideology behind these “ambiguous sayings” has to do with conditioning and propagandizing in behalf of ultimately doing away with the sovereignty of individual nation-states. For example, in regards to the ongoing controversy over free trade, up until recently each nation determined how it would go about protecting and nurturing its own domestic markets and industries by regulating the importation of goods from other nations. Now, though, various international treaty agreements mean that individual nations no longer have that right. Globalism subtly subverts the sovereignty of nations by transferring the authority to determine the internal affairs of nations to an international court of arbitration.

So it is, the king of fierce countenance understands these baffling and ambiguous sayings, in that he is the source of the propaganda intended to bring the world under his imperial yoke. (Globalism is the New Imperialism – EIR)

"And his power must become might, but not by his own power"

The United Nations is unique, in that, it is the only government that has ever existed on this planet that does not have a specific nation as its power base. The UN derives its authority and power from the consent of all its member nations. To the extent that each nation relinquishes a portion of its own sovereignty, and to the degree that each nation contributes funds, military equipment and personnel to the UN, to that extent it is empowered.

Of course, the Anglo-American establishment is the primary supporter of the UN – New York City being home to the UN headquarters. Although, obviously, the United Nations already exists, and historically Great Britain and the United States have been the UN's strongest advocates, according to Revelation 13:14-15 at some point we may expect the fabricated image of the wild beast to have life breathed into it so that it takes on a life of its own. The prophecy reveals that eventually the 8th king will demand submission from every person on earth under pain of death.

We begin to get some idea of the authority and power that the UN is yet to acquire when we consider what Revelation 17 and 18 foretells what is to occur when Babylon the Great is destroyed. When organized religion is eventually annihilated by the 8th king, as Jehovah's Witnesses have expected for some time, the prophecy says that even the kings of the earth who gave their power to the 8th king will "stand at a distance because of their fear of her torment and say, 'too bad, too bad, you great city.'" Under the circumstances of any sort of global catastrophe and international crisis, it does not require a vivid imagination to envision the UN requisitioning the world's armies and even nuclear weaponry so that no individual nation would dare challenge its power. In this way the king fierce in countenance must become mighty in power.

"And in a wonderful way he will cause ruin, and he will prove successful and do effectively"

To date the Watchtower has never offered any sort of satisfactory explanation as to how the British Empire or America might have become mighty, but not by its own power, nor has it ever offered a single comment on how the Anglo-American kingdom may have brought ruination "in a wonderful way." Since we cannot point to any sort of historical development that would support such a thing, it must be that the prophecy awaits a future fulfillment.

Consider, too, Daniel 11:36 states concerning the king of the north: "He will certainly prove successful until the denunciation will have come to a finish."

Since both kings – the king of the north and the king of fierce countenance – are said to be successful until the very end, they are obviously the same entity.

In this connection also, the king of fierce countenance apparently comes out of the symbolic north. Please reason on Daniel 8:9, which reads: "And it kept getting very much greater toward the south and toward the sunrising and toward the decoration." Toward the sunrising is, of course, east, and towards the Decoration is evidently west from the standpoint of both conquerors of Israel and Judah – namely, Assyria and Babylon. So, the prophecy seems indented to indicate that the king comes from the north and expands his dominion south and in all directions to envelope the entire globe. This, too, would harmonize with all the many prophecies that speak of a tyrant as coming from the symbolic north – including the symbolic Gog of Magog, “from the remotest parts of the north.” Also, please take note that even the symbolic insect invaders that wreck the world – said to be Jehovah’s military force – is also called “the northerner”

In what way might this king prove successful? Apparently his “success” comes when he effectively subjugates the world to himself. Interestingly, Jehovah speaks through his prophet Isaiah in connection with his avenger from out of the north, saying of him: "I myself, too, have created the ruinous man for wrecking work." – Isaiah 54:16b

Isaiah the 25th chapter speaks of the "town of tyrannical nations," saying that the persecution from them is a scorching heat and as "when the blast of the tyrannical ones is like a rainstorm against a wall." Furthermore, in that context, Isaiah 25:7 indicates that God will intervene and that "he will swallow up the face of the envelopment that is enveloping over all peoples, and the woven work that is interwoven upon all the nations."

The envelopment that is enveloping over all peoples and enmeshing all the nations has to do with the imposition of a globe-strangling, genocidal, dictatorial, tyrannical regime – the likes of which this poor war-ravaged planet has never seen. That Jehovah would use that setting to describe his doing away with death and wiping the tears from the eyes of his people is an indication of the horrors that await us in the future when the king of fierce countenance succeeds in causing widespread ruin. (See articles: Look! This Is Our God – This is Jehovah and The Envelopment that Is Enveloping)

"And he will actually bring mighty ones to ruin, also the people made up of the holy ones"

The period following WWII has been a period of relative peace and prosperity, generally speaking. The children born in the post-war era, the so-called "baby boomer generation," have not known the hardships of their parents and grandparents that lived through the Great Depression and the Second World War. Consequently, most have become accustomed to the idea that nothing will change.

However, Jehovah has envisioned an entirely different fate for this wicked system of things. His word says that at some point men will become so desperate that they will throw their worthless money into the very street.

A move is underway to replace the Dollar

A move is underway to replace the Dollar

Actually, such a thing is not so far-fetched when we consider what happened in Germany in 1923. Germany’s currency was destroyed due to hyperinflation and became completely worthless, which was the intention of the Versailles Treaty architects. Those whose wealth was held in the Reichsmark were ruined.

There are more modern examples that we can point to as instances where mighty nations are brought to ruin by being reduced to poverty through currency devaluation and outright confiscation. Greece and Cyprus are the most recent victims of imperial plundering and enslavement. But this has been an ongoing process that is merely accelerating. Debt has always been the tool of the empire to enslave peoples and nations.

The sovereignty of nations is tied to the viability of their domestic economies and currencies. In recent years, the U.S. dollar has become the world's preferred currency. Ominously, though, America also has the unenviable distinction of having gone from being the world's greatest creditor nation to the world's greatest debtor. That means that the world has put its trust in America to make good on its paper promises. At some point, soon, that promise must inevitably be broken. The Bible principle that the borrower becomes a slave to the lender holds true in the case of nations too.

Ironically, the United Nations is the only government that is not in debt. Already, plans are underway to sink the Dollar and replace it with a new currency. As was done with Cypress, most likely the central banks that hold US Treasury debt will require payment in gold, which will then become the basis for a new monetary system administered by the United Nations. In this way the king of the north will come to rule over the hidden treasures of the gold and silver of the king of the south and the mighty ones will be brought to ruin.

In many ways we are all dependent upon this system of things. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is a multi-billion dollar operation that very much depends upon the continued stability of the present economic and political system in order to carry on its work. A global financial collapse or hyperinflationary destruction of the U.S. dollar, such as occurred in Germany in 1923, could result in not only the fulfillment of the prophecies that call for bringing to ruin the mighty ones and wealthy ones of this system, but "also the people made up of holy ones."

"According to his insight he will also certainly cause deception to succeed in his hand"

Satan's entire wicked world is run from the top-down based on deception. Therefore, the ones most adept at deceiving others are the ones that succeed in this world. While many people will admit that government leaders, politicians, and businessmen often lie to the public, few people are mentally up to the challenge of accepting that there is such a thing as a conspiracy to destroy the nation-state system of things. Most people have been subtly conditioned to dismiss such a thing as the paranoid delusions of conspiracy nuts and UFO crackpots. Yet, the reality is that there is now in place the bureaucratic infrastructure for a global government, and that the nation-state system has been brought into a situation whereby its collapse seems all but certain.

Jehovah himself adds the weight of his own voice to the issue of an incredible but true conspiracy. In reference to the tyrannical punishing agent that God has destined to catch the nations in his dragnet, Habakkuk 1:5 says: "See, you people, among the nations, and look on, and stare in amazement at one another. Be amazed; for there is an activity that one is carrying on in your days, which you people will not believe although it is related." (See article: Habakkuk)

Furthermore, Jehovah speaks to his own people in regards to his "strange" and "unusual work" of allowing his organization to be tyrannized, saying: "And now do not show yourselves scoffers, in order that your bands may not grow strong, for there is an extermination, even something decided upon, that I have heard of from the Sovereign Lord Jehovah of armies, for all the land."

One of the most persistent lies that have dominated society’s thinking in recent times is the lie that the world is over-populated. A British statistician by the name of Thomas Malthus, who was apparently commissioned by the British Empire, first advanced this idea back in the18th century. His name has since then become synonymous with population reduction. Hence, Malthusian policy has been the cornerstone of imperial thought up to the present day. In fact, since 1974 it has been the official policy of the Anglo-American establishment to reduce Third World population by whatever means is available in order to make sure that Third World resources are available to the wealthy nations. Global warming is being used by the British Empire to con the nations into adopting policies that are intended to kill off a large percentage of the population. (See article: The Coming Rise and Fall of Babylon)

Judging from the progress that has been made so far, it is apparent that the king of fierce countenance has shown great insight into human nature, as well as political and financial matters, and he has thoroughly deceived the nations as to the nature of his intentions. Behind the seeming benevolent façade of being a peacekeeper and of protecting human rights, and of trying to save the planet from war, poverty, and ruin, the United Nations stands poised to hamstring the nations and implement the Prince Phillip’s and the British Empire’s agenda of reducing the earth's population by as much as 80%.

Since the UN is most assuredly the agency that Jehovah will ultimately assign to punish the nations, evidently they will fully implement their genocidal policy at some point during the world's nightmarish last hour. Jehovah's judgment upon the world is that it should become victimized by itself in a global holocaust that far exceeds the Nazi and Communist pogroms of the 20th century. It will be a fitting end for a world that will refuse the loving hand of the Savior upon his return.

No wonder Jehovah describes the world's last imperial overlord in such ghastly terms as is found at Isaiah 14:19-20, which reads: "Like a detested sprout, clothed with killed men stabbed with the sword that are going down to the stones of a pit, like a carcass trodden down--because you brought your own land to ruin, you killed your own people."

"And in his heart he will put on great airs"

No government has ever been so presumptuous so as to take to itself the authority of the Messiah. Yet, the UN claims that if the nations only empower it, that it will be able to do what no human institution has ever done before, namely: bring true peace to the world by making the nations beat their swords into plowshares. The UN asserts that it is the only real protector of human rights. The UN advances the idea that all national governments are obsolete and that they must go so that the world can enjoy the true benefits of globalism.

Not only does the UN presume to fulfill Isaiah's Messianic prophecy, it is well- known that the UN has been the promoter of New Age pantheism. It was the official policy of communist regimes to suppress all religion, and especially Christianity. So, it should not seem at all surprising that world socialism is similarly disposed towards religion. We may expect, then, that when Daniel 8:12 says that the king of fierce countenance "kept throwing truth to the earth, and it acted and had success," that not only will Christendom be destroyed, but that the work of Jehovah's Witnesses will be suppressed as well.

By attempting to annihilate Jehovah's holy ones, who will by that time have been given the kingdom, the king of fierce countenance will have misled all the nations into a direct confrontation with Jesus Christ, the Prince of princes. The 2nd Psalms foretells that the national groups will be unified under a common umbrella when they go to war against God. It reads "kings of the earth take their stand and high officials themselves have amassed together as one against Jehovah and against his anointed one."

During that critical time of tumult, Jehovah speaks to the nations in his hot displeasure, reminding them that he has already installed his own heavenly King and that their appointed time has expired. The king of fierce countenance will find himself in the middle of the strategic battlefield of Armageddon, where he will prove to be no match for Jesus Christ and his legions of angels. Daniel 8:25b writes the final sentence to the last chapter of the history of the empire of man. It reads: "And against the Prince of princes he will stand up, but it will be without [human] hand that he will be broken."

Is World War Three a Possibility?

Here is what the Watchtower Society's Reasoning from the Scriptures (1989) ministers' handbook states under the heading of The Last Days on the question of whether it is possible that the sign of Christ's presence and the conclusion of the system of things could display itself in the future.

‘How do you know that some future generation won’t fit the prophecy even better than this one?’

You might reply: ‘That’s an interesting question, and the answer highlights the fact that we really are living in “the last days.” How? Well, part of the sign given by Jesus involves war between nations and kingdoms. But what would happen today if fulfillment of the sign required that we wait until another all-out war were to break out between the superpowers? Such a war would leave few if any survivors. So, you see, God’s purpose that there be survivors indicates that we are now very close to the end of this old system.’

The Visible Presence of Christ

Although it may be difficult for Jehovah’s Witnesses to accept, the Watchtower Society certainly fits the profile of those coming in the name of Christ proclaiming that “the due time has approached.” In fact, for more than 100 years the Watchtower has been the source of quasi-inspired expressions, as well as verbal messages delivered to mass audiences and official letters from God’s purported “earthly mouth-piece,” declaring that “the day of Jehovah is here.” For instance, the second volume of the so-called Studies in the Scriptures was entitled The Time is at Hand – implying that the day of Jehovah was at hand more than a century ago. More recently, in 1973, the Watchtower Society even published a book with the title: “God’s Kingdom of a Thousand Years has Approached.”

A False Day of Jehovah - or - Do You Believe the Lie?

In his series of parables recorded in the 13th chapter of Matthew Jesus indicated that lawless persons and stumbling blocks would exist within “his kingdom” (congregation) up until the time of the fiery purge. Christ also foretold that during the conclusion “many will be stumbled and will betray one another and will hate one another.  And many false prophets will arise and mislead many; and because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off.”

Surely, Jesus is not here suggesting that people outside the congregation “will betray one another and hate one another.” That is hardly noteworthy. Nor is the “increasing of lawlessness” Christ foretold a rise in street crime or white collar crime. But rather, Christ foretold the breakdown of his congregation during the conclusion of the system of things due to apostasy, which is what lawlessness is in the Scriptures. But what is the source of the false prophets, stumbling blocks and increasing of lawlessness? It is the existence of the man of lawlessness – the antichrist, “the son of destruction.”

Did not Jude foretell that there would be those who “are the rocks hidden below water in your love feasts while they feast with you, shepherds that feed themselves without fear”?

The Faithful Slave Passes the Test?

The second study article of the March 1, 2004, Watchtower, entitled: "The Faithful Slave Passes the Test,"reasserts the teaching that Christ came in 1918-19 to inspect the household of anointed. Supposedly that is when the evil slave was thrown out and the faithful and discreet slave was appointed over all of Christ's belongings.

The Watchtower also applies a number of related prophetic illustrations to the same period; including the separation of the wheat and weeds; the wise and foolish virgins, as well as the parable of the master's talents.

Do Elders Have a Fiduciary Duty?

An open letter entitled A Conspiracy of Silence, Soon to End is now (2006)  being widely publicized on the Internet and mailed directly to hundreds of Kingdom Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses, informing them the Watchtower Society’s attorneys are arguing before the court that Bethel-appointed elders have no fiduciary duty towards members of the congregation. But what does that mean?

What is the Great Tribulation and the Holy Place?

In brief: The great tribulation is to be immediately preceded, if not precipitated by, global war, food shortages, pandemics, and great earthquakes in various places and a massive falling away of Christians, as well as persecutions and martyrdom for the faithful. Then, after the beginning pangs of distress have served as a signal that the parousia has begun, Jesus said a “disgusting thing” would violate and desolate God’s holy place, which Christ described as a great tribulation that would require Christians to take decisive action.

Many First Will be Last, And the Last First

For many decades the Society has taught Jehovah’s Witnesses that the calling and choosing of the 144,000-member bride of Christ ended in 1935. (Actually, by applying the parable of the wise and foolish virgins to the 1914-1919 period the Watchtower even inadvertently implies that the door to the marriage feast was closed way back then. Ironically, virtually all the present members of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses were anointed post 1935.)

Consequently, as a result of that erroneous teaching, the current mindset within the organization is that any new partakers of the heavenly calling are viewed with great suspicion and even disdain—as if they are less worthy of Jehovah’s undeserved kindness then the older, exalted anointed brothers.

The Apostasy Must Come First

Satan has corrupted and misled every people that God has ever recognized as his own—beginning with the first family in Eden. For example, so insidious is Satan’s influence, no sooner had God miraculously saved them from Egyptian bondage and organized the patriarchal tribes of Israel into a nation, then Satan induced their high priest, Aaron, to fabricate a golden calf to be worshipped in the name of Jehovah.

Sadly, much of the history of Israel and Judah is a chronicle of apostasy, idolatry and unfaithfulness on the part of the people of the covenants.

Imagining Paradise

Imagine paradise, no hassles. Total freedom!

Imagine paradise, no hassles. Total freedom!

It is not uncommon for persons to suppose that living forever in paradise would be boring. This is an edited reprint of a previous Mailbag question from the week of April 20th, 2003, discussing the topic.

I feel really depressed and mixed up because I have this feeling that maybe the New World after Armageddon will not live up to expectations. I know it's just because I could not imagine everlasting life in this system without getting bored or tired of it. I know we are told that we will be happy, but I need some form of reassurance. Please help.

Okay. Let's do a little exercise here, just for fun. While you are on the computer, open up your word processor and start a document called: "Things I would like to do." Now, start listing all the things you would like to do. Be as imaginative as you want, but be realistic. This is your wish list for this system.

To start you off, maybe you would like to go to the movies with some friends today and then go out for some pizza afterwards. Okay then, write that down. How about tomorrow? What do you want to do? How about a year from now or ten years from now?

Right off the bat, you probably recognize that there are some serious limitations here. More than likely you are going to have to do things today and tomorrow that you wish you didn't have to do. You know your situation.

Are you bored out of your mind? Use your imagination and escape!

Are you bored out of your mind? Use your imagination and escape!

Like everyone else, your choices and options are somewhat limited because of your present circumstance. Maybe you don't have very much money to go places and do the things you want to do. Maybe you don't have a car to get where you want to go. Maybe you don't have so many friends that you like to be around all that much anyway. Maybe you just don't feel very good about yourself and so your relationships with other people are not the best. Maybe, after you do the things you have to do, you just don't have the time or energy to do the things you really want to do—so you just end up on the couch in front of the television—or worse. No doubt, you can see that what you want to do is very limited by what you can do because of circumstances beyond your control. That's what breeds boredom and frustration.

Okay, now I am going to ask you to use something that everyone possesses that is one of the most powerful forces in the universe—your imagination! Think about this: Everything in the world, both good and bad, originated in someone's imagination first before it became real. So, unleash your imagination!

Now make a list of all the things you want to do without the limitations you are presently faced with. Don't worry about not having the time or money or energy. Imagine: No limitations!

Think about it. Spend some time lost in a daydream. Realize that in your imagination you can go anywhere and do anything.

The Watchtower's concept of paradise

 The Watchtower's concept of paradise

Forget the Watchtower's crude drawings of people sitting around on blankets with huge picnic baskets of fruit and vegetables, while the children are petting lions. That's merely one aspect of an artist's impression of paradise. The real paradise is much more than that and your imagination has the power to make it much more vivid. Besides, this is your list—your version of paradise. What do you want to do?

Now do you get the picture?

Paradise means that you can stay up as late as you want partying with friends and drinking cappuccino!—If that's what you want. It means that you can sleep until noon every day—if that's what you want. It means that you can go anywhere, anytime, without any worries or hassles from anyone.

Do you wish to live in a home on a cliff overlooking the sea? Why not have another home in the mountains and one in the valley or desert too? You can do a time-share with your many friends from all over the world when you aren't living there. Are we getting the imaginative juices flowing yet?

By the way, how many friends do you have now? How many do you want to have? How many friends do you have that are from a different race or nationality? How many languages do you speak? Why not learn them all? Impossible you say? Can you imagine using 100% of your mental capacity? Probably not, since we currently use only a very small percentage of our brain's capacity—even when imagining.

Okay, maybe you just would like to live free and unencumbered without any possessions—just living in the open like Adam and Eve—if that's what you desire. Or, you can live like the wealthiest person in the world—because you will be—everyone will be, because you will not be lacking anything that you desire. Remember: Jehovah has immense wealth, beyond our ability to even comprehend, and he is going to share it with all of his children.

Can you imagine the joy and deep satisfaction of having meaningful human relationships? No more people-problems caused by jealousy, greed, anger and stupidity! Just think: No more mean people!

Paradise means that you can have a perfect family. It means your children will never be snotty-nosed, bawling brats. Children will always be a joy to be around. They will continually amaze you with their genius, creativity and loveliness. How many children do you want to have? And just imagine seeing your children’s children for who knows how many generations?

Imagine the world to come and the limitless possibilities!

Imagine the world to come and the limitless possibilities!

Do you wanna sing and dance? What's stopping you?

Do you want to play beautiful music? Or perhaps you yearn to compose music like a Beethoven? Forget it. By the time Wolfgang Amadeus is resurrected into paradise you will be giving him music lessons!

There are yet-unheard new songs waiting to be sung and new music to be discovered and composed, and you are going to have the opportunity to do it all—if that's what you desire.

Do you wish to paint or sculpt or make beautiful works of glass or ceramic? Would you like to design landscapes that make the gardens of Versailles look like an unkempt lot? Do you want to write classic novels and stories that inspire and captivate others?

Remember, no limitations!

What do you want to do? No two snowflakes are exactly the same—or so they say. The same goes for people. And you will have forever to discover your own uniqueness and potential, as well as the uniqueness of others.

What about travel? Have you ever been to Tahiti? How about Tibet or Tangiers?

Have you ever sailed the wide open ocean at night?

Have you ever sailed the wide open ocean at night?

Have you ever explored an underground cave? Why not? Have you ever dug an emerald or ruby out of the earth? How many unpolished precious gems are waiting to be unearthed and transformed into breathtaking ornaments by you?

Have you ever climbed a mountain? Have you ever stood on a frosty peak and looked out over the world? Have you ever slept under a canopy of stars in the middle of the vast ocean, in a sail boat, as giant whales sing their serene serenade in the distance? Have you ever gone snorkeling in tropical blue waters? Have you ever frolicked with a pod of killer whales or dolphins?

Have you ever traveled to the beautiful winter wonderland of the Arctic and hung out with penguins or fed the polar bears in the glow of the Northern lights? It is going to become your planet. What do you want to do with it?

Where do you want to go?

Have you ever been to a resurrection party?

We have all been to weddings and funerals and we know the emotions involved. But you have never been to a resurrection ceremony. Can you imagine being at a gathering of friends and family as they await the pre-announced materialization of the next resurrectee? What kind of reception do you suppose would take place afterwards? Do you think you would become bored sharing in the ecstasy of such occasions? For example, can you imagine the astonished look on, say, your grandmother's face when you walk over to her and give her a kiss and welcome her to paradise? Then, a few weeks later you and your newly resurrected grandmother go to her mother's resurrection reception to welcome your great grandma back from the dead. Do you think you would ever become bored participating in welcoming each generation back from the grave? Is there anyone who has died whom you would like to host at a resurrection party? If so, add their names to your list.

Romance you ask? Listen, Jehovah invented wine and roses, exotic music, and everything that is beautiful, lovely and sensuous. Have you ever sipped 50-year old Armagnac? You are missing something! Its sweet vapors evaporate in your throat without ever reaching the bottom! And just think, Jehovah promises to roll out the barrel of the finest wines for everyone to enjoy—if that's what you want.

Paradise means a world full of love and joy. Can you handle that?

Paradise means a world full of love and joy. Can you handle that?

Paradise means that your lover writes you poetry and brings you flowers everyday! Do you think you will become bored basking in the glow of the “flame of Jah,” burning like a torch in your lover's eyes? We were made to thrive on love and that's all there is going to be in paradise—even more love than you can handle! Is that hard to imagine? If so, you need to crank up your imagination.

God created the human face to reflect his own joy and glory. How could he possibly allow even one of his children to go around sad-faced in his new world?

What must Jehovah have intended when he created Adam and Eve? They were his own children. Can you imagine being a true son or daughter of a loving Father like Jehovah? We are so far removed from Eden it doesn't seem real sometimes. But that is where your imagination comes in; not in imagining some Elysian fantasy, but imagining what is real—what is to come. Knowledge-based faith allows us to do that.

Paradise offers you the opportunity to find out what it really means to be made in the image of God and to be part of God's universal family. It offers you the privilege of personally experiencing what it is like to have Jehovah's power and personality in a scaled down version of God himself.

Best of all, the real reason God created us is so that we might have a relationship with him. Not a relationship where we do all the talking and we hope he hears us. Paradise means that Jehovah comes looking for you—just like he did in Eden with the first man! Can you imagine what Jehovah might say if you could casually converse with him? Can you imagine how thrilling it will be to speak with the Creator of the universe on a daily basis and ask him any question on your mind and he will answer it?

You could even ask the Creator to solve the age-old riddle, once and for all, about which came first, the chicken or the egg? Surely He knows. And who knows, he might just astonish or amuse you with his answer? Or do you suppose that Jehovah has no sense of humor? He created the chimpanzee didn't he?

I imagine that once we get our relationship with God repaired, Jehovah could tell you a private joke that would leave you laughing for weeks. What do you want to say to Jehovah when you talk to him in person?

Do you think Jehovah ever gets bored? How could he?

Look at his vast universe and this fantastic earth he created and all of its many marvels. We don't enjoy a fraction of it. Do you honestly think God is going to allow his sons and daughters to be bored living in paradise? Whereas, it seems that if the Devil can't fool us into destroying ourselves outrightly, he seems intent on boring us to death with his futile system of things we are forced to live under presently; but in Jehovah's world-to-come it will be a thrill to simply be alive—to breathe the clean and sweetly perfumed air of paradise.

The universe is a big place, full of mystery and jewels and gems waiting to be discovered by you!

The universe is a big place, full of mystery and jewels and gems waiting to be discovered by you!

When Jehovah promises to give the entire earth to the meek ones as an inheritance, what does that mean? Well, what does it mean to inherit something from a parent? It means that you own it—you take possession of your share, right? Well, then, can you imagine owning the earth? Give it a try—use your limitless imagination to envision what you are going to do with your inheritance of planet earth. Inheriting the earth means total freedom to do whatever you want as long as you do not break God's law of love. Isn't that awesome?

Jehovah words it something like this: “But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.”

And your name is penciled-in in Jehovah's legal Will. As long as you have faith in him and appreciate what Jesus did to make it possible—it is yours. That's your inheritance from your heavenly Father.

So, please don't let the Devil trick you into thinking that the New World will be a bore. Start dreaming and thinking about all the wonderful possibilities that await you in the paradise of Jehovah's promise. I am sure that once you open up your imagination you will not be able to stop thinking about all the wonderful possibilities that come with everlasting life in a new world.
