It has now been nearly a century since Charles Taze Russell made the bold proclamation: “The Gentile times have ended. Their kings have had their day.”

For nearly four decades before that fateful year Russell’s Watchtower had been pointing forward to 1914 as a year marked in prophecy that would see the beginning of anarchy and the collapse of civilization.

When Austrian Archduke, Franz Ferdinad, along with his wife Sophie, were assassinated in Sarajevo on June 28th, it resulted in all the Great Powers of Europe choosing up sides and declaring war against each other in a matter of a few weeks – setting the stage for the bloodbath that became known as the First World War. Those tragic developments led C. T. Russell to make his historic announcement on October the 2nd of that year.

Of course, civilization did not collapse then. And the Great War did not lead into the Battle of Armageddon, as the Bible Students had been eagerly anticipating. And the Gentile kings, whose “day” had supposedly come in 1914, have in the decades since then gone on to dominate the world in ways that would have been hard for anyone living back then to even imagine.

Oddly enough, though, the year 1914 has ever since become solidified as the most important date in all human history, at least according to the Watchtower Society.

In spite of the disappointed expectations of those early Bible Students, in 1930 J.F. Rutherford – Russell’s successor as president of the Watchtower Society – made a profound revision of the organization’s eschatology. Previously, the Bible Students had been taught that Jesus began an invisible presence in 1874 – presumably, becoming king then too. However, without any fanfare, in 1930 the Watchtower casually moved the beginning of the invisible parousia up to 1914.

The Watchtower, of course, has largely glossed over that “adjustment,” as if it were a trivial matter. But Jehovah’s Witnesses would do well to ponder the question: Is the powerful parousia of Jesus Christ of such a nature that its advent can be shuffled like a deck of playing cards?

The “adjustment” reveals that from the very beginning the leadership of the organization pushed a phony parousia of Christ. This is no insignificant detail of the Watchtower’s history given the fact that Jesus himself foretold that there would be those who would come in the name of Jesus falsely declaring: “The due time has approached.” The Watchtower even published a book nearly forty years ago with the title – God’s Kingdom of a Thousands Years Has Approached.

To expand on what Christ had foretold, the apostle Paul issued a prophetic warning to Christians, cautioning them not to allow themselves to be seduced in any manner by authoritative announcements, whether written or vocalized, heralding the parousia and the day of Jehovah. Paul went on to explain how Satan would perform great signs and wonders and use every unrighteous deception to give credence to a man of lawlessness, who is the source of apostolic-like declarations claiming the presence of Christ and day of Jehovah have begun. (See article - Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Man of Lawlessness)

So, 1930 was arguably the beginning of a phenomenon foretold in prophecy that has continued down to this day. And what phenomenon is that? The plastering of whitewash on the symbolic wall! Unquestionably, the 1914 doctrine stands as a towering edifice in the minds of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Society frequently boasts of its great insights in discerning such esoteric matters. Many of Jehovah’s Witnesses are overawed by the Watchtower’s seeming interpretive prowess.

But according to the prophecy in the book of Ezekiel the leaders of God’s people will erect a partition wall and plaster it with coat upon coat of whitewash. The prophecy is directed against “the prophets of Israel,” whom Jehovah denounces, saying to them: “Woe to the stupid prophets, who are walking after their own spirit, when there is nothing that they have seen! Like foxes in the devastated places are what your own prophets have become, O Israel. You men will certainly not go up into the gaps, neither will you build up a stone wall in behalf of the house of Israel, in order to stand in the battle in the day of Jehovah. They have visioned what is untrue and a lying divination, those who are saying, ‘The utterance of Jehovah is,’ when Jehovah himself has not sent them, and they have waited to have a word come true. Is it not an untrue vision that you men have visioned, and a lying divination that you have said, when saying, ‘The utterance of Jehovah is,’ when I myself have spoken nothing?”’

True to God’s words recorded in 13th chapter of Ezekiel, the Watchtower does indeed claim to be a prophet. Perhaps not in the sense of being inspired in the same way as the biblical prophets, but they indisputably claim sole authority to interpret the Bible and prophetically speak for Jehovah. In essence, their proclamations – as stated in prophecy – are as if they say: “The utterance of Jehovah is…”

To be sure, the Watchtower claims to be the mouthpiece for a Jeremiah class and an Ezekiel class of prophet, and so forth. So in that sense they are rightly addressed by Jehovah as the prophets of Israel, albeit “stupid prophets.”

Importantly, just as Jesus foretold that the activity of false prophets would precede the parousia and that during the parousia there would be a misleading influence directed against the very chosen ones of God, and Paul likewise foretold the man of lawlessness would operate within the spiritual temple of The God up until the manifestation of the Lord Jesus would do away with him, the stupid prophets reside within the “intimate group” of God’s people up until the day of Jehovah. That is when Jehovah enters into judgment with the lying visionaries of Israel. The next span of verses read:

“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said: ‘For the reason that you men have spoken untruth and you have visioned a lie, therefore here I am against you,’ is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah. And my hand has come to be against the prophets that are visioning untruth and that are divining a lie. In the intimate group of my people they will not continue on, and in the register of the house of Israel they will not be written, and to the soil of Israel they will not come; and you people will have to know that I am the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, for the reason, yes, for the reason that they have led my people astray, saying, ‘There is peace!’ when there is no peace, and there is one that is building a partition wall, but in vain there are those plastering it with whitewash.’”

Again, true to the prophecy, the leadership of Jehovah’s Witnesses has declared that there is peace between them and God. And this is directly tied to 1914. How so?

In the decades since 1914 the Watchtower has developed a rather extensive body of prophetic interpretation, all tied to 1914 in one way or another. Probably the most far-reaching aspect is their oft-preached assertion that Christ made an unseen inspection of God’s house and appointed the Society over all of his belongings in 1918. That means, in effect, that Jesus has already given them his irrevocable approval. Related to that, the Watchtower claims that since 1919 Babylon the Great has fallen and that now all of Jehovah’s Witnesses reside in a spiritual paradise; this, in spite of such irreconcilable evils as the prevalence of thousands of pedophiles submerged within the congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses. (See chapter: Spiritual Paradise)

Many of God’s prophetic denunciations and rebukes, which are directed to the leaders of his people, have been cleverly applied by the leadership of the organization to the period of 1916-1919. As a result, Jehovah’s Witnesses have no scriptural basis for anticipating any sort of day of reckoning or judgment from above. They have been led astray, having been assured that there is peace with God and that Jehovah could not possibly have any issues with his cleansed earthly organization.

But the Watchtower’s 1914 doctrine is provably false. And those who promote it as an authentic Bible truth and as the “utterance of Jehovah” are most certainly “visioning untruth and divining a lie.”

Jehovah next commanded his prophet, saying to him: “Say to those plastering with whitewash that it will fall. A flooding downpour will certainly occur, and you, O hailstones, will fall, and a blast of windstorms itself will cause a splitting. And, look! the wall must fall. Will it not be said to you men, ‘Where is the coating with which you did the plastering?’”

With each passing year and each decade further removed from 1914, the Society’s prophets have waited in vain to have a word come true, as Ezekiel foretold. As a result of the obvious failure of their prophesying they have found it necessary to plaster more and more coats of whitewash on their organizational wall, to keep up appearances. For example, since 1995 the Watchtower has liberally applied several coats of plaster to cover over the gapping fact that the generation that would not pass away has in fact passed away.

But it is in vain that Jehovah’s Witnesses have worked so hard to promote an untruth. The wall is doomed to fall! Their unreality will meet up with the truth! But who will bring down the wall? Jehovah will. The wall will be toppled when the day of Jehovah commences. The prophecy continues:

“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said, ‘I will also cause a blast of windstorms to burst forth in my rage, and in my anger there will occur a flooding downpour, and in rage there will be hailstones for an extermination. And I will tear down the wall that you men have plastered with whitewash and bring it into contact with the earth, and its foundation must be exposed. And she will certainly fall, and you must come to an end in the midst of her; and you will have to know that I am Jehovah. And I will bring my rage to its finish upon the wall and upon those plastering it with whitewash, and I shall say to you men: ‘The wall is no more, and those plastering it are no more, the prophets of Israel that are prophesying to Jerusalem and that are visioning for her a vision of peace, when there is no peace,’ is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah.”

The flooding downpour and hailstorm of Jehovah’s rage will bring down the Watchtower’s whitewashed wall. That is because the storm will be an expression of the authentic parousia of Jesus Christ, at which point everything associated with 1914 will be revealed as one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated upon a trusting people. The prophecy of Isaiah confirms that the prophecy of Ezekiel under consideration here does indeed speak to the future parousia of Christ. The 28th chapter of Isaiah is also addressed to the rulers of God’s people, who have concealed themselves in a lie. But God’s flood of rage will sweep away their refuge of falsehood.

Specifically, Isaiah 28:14-18 states: Therefore hear the word of Jehovah, you braggarts, you rulers of this people who are in Jerusalem: Because you men have said: ‘We have concluded a covenant with Death; and with Sheol we have effected a vision; the overflowing flash flood, in case it should pass through, will not come to us, for we have made a lie our refuge and in falsehood we have concealed ourselves’; therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said: ‘Here I am laying as a foundation in Zion a stone, a tried stone, the precious corner of a sure foundation. No one exercising faith will get panicky. And I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the leveling instrument; and the hail must sweep away the refuge of a lie, and the waters themselves will flood out the very place of concealment. And your covenant with Death will certainly be dissolved, and that vision of yours with Sheol will not stand. The overflowing flash flood, when it passes through—you must also become for it a trampling place.”

The significance of the prophecy of Isaiah is not merely that it is in harmony with Ezekiel, but that it places the flood of God’s indignation against the leaders of his people in the context of the arrival of Christ, the “sure foundation” – as opposed to a shabbily constructed, whitewashed wall. Noteworthy too, the "trampling" must coincide with the trampling of the holy place (antitypical Jerusalem) by the disgusting thing, which is a prominent feature of the sign of Christ's presence.

The leadership of Jehovah’s Witnesses is certainly well described as braggarts. They repeatedly have declared themselves to be faithful and discreet and the big trees of righteousness, towering over all others. And as already discussed, they have interpreted the prophecies so as to give the impression that Jehovah has declared the Watchtower to be righteous. In this way they have taken refuge in a lie and concealed themselves in falsehood.

Returning to Ezekiel, in the closing words of the 12th chapter Jehovah told his watchman that there would be no more postponement of his word. That is why Ezekiel told the stupid prophets the wall was going to fall.

So, at this late date – as the global system lurches towards inevitable catastrophe – it may confidently be stated that there will be no more postponement of Jehovah’s judgments. The leadership of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Governing Body of the Watchtower Society and all those associated with it, are hereby put on notice that “the wall must fall” – your whitewash-plastered organizational wall is coming down, soon!

Thankyou Watchman, The article makes perfect sense, if Jehovah has used the org. in a special way. Did Jehovah have the Truth about the trinity, hellfire, immortality of the soul, and making Jehovah's name known have all been rediscovered by this organization? but what about all the demonic influences in ever corner of this org.Would Jehovah use a group such as this with all of its great sins by some very powerful evil faction within the organization? I do not know, it has been a very hard thing for me to understand! What about those in christendom who, some are doing the very best they can, with the knowledge they have. Is Jehovah going to leave them to their own demise, to be destroyed simply because they did not have the opportunity to understand?

People in Christendom have had an opportunity to know the truth. I have only met a rare few who wanted to know it.

Watchman just got back today from an assembly in Golden where many of our brothers there have such high hopes in Jehovah’s organization, but fail to realize the possible misdirection we are heading in as you pointed out in Isaiah and Ezekiel. I think for many it’s hard to believe that an organization that provides such good information in such articles like watchtower magazines or awakes could ever be misleading them or keeping valuable information from them. And yet so many have come into the truth because of the preaching campaign we initiate every day, It’s difficult to understand sometimes that WTC who are trusted men could be deliberately hiding truth from their own brothers. I truly agree with many articles you have posted, with everything taking place today no one can deny that hour is quickly approaching, and many including myself will have to rely on Jehovah more than ever when WTC falls. I have learned more these past month reading your informative material. And as a family man I know it becomes more important every day to trust in Jehovah not in man. As 1 John 4:1 states “Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expression to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.”

Ive often thought looking at scripture that jehovah at the end will give many a chance in all sorts of religions and places in the world to be saved ,esp cause the watchtower has failed the people, for example revelation says a great crowd which no man can number, surely this cannot be just those who are or have been in WT and it says no man can number , intrestingly watchtower often boasts of counting their numbers.Any thoughts?

Jace, the Bible says "today" is the acceptable day of salvation. Once everything starts coming down it will not be possible for people to learn the truth. That is why Paul said, "as long as it may be called today..." Besides, how reasonable is it that God would grant salvation to people who know nothing about his purpose? Most people reject the hope of living on the earth. The "no man can number" expression simply means it is not a fixed number, in contrast with the 144,000. As far as stumbling others, that is why God is going to punish his slave, because he holds them responsible.

    Robert,

I hope by saying, quote“Once everything starts coming down it will not be possible for people to learn the truth.”end quote, that you are not implying that those of other faiths (nonchristians) and those whom claim to be Christian (other then JW’s) don’t have a chance of being enlighten with truth, therefore not being judged righteous by Jehovah/Jesus?

Why the very fact that when things start coming down is how Jehovah is going to expose the falsehoods of the WTS from the things that they have tought that have led his people astray.

Isn’t that when truth will replace the falsehoods? Isn’t that why the wall must fall? Your quote above really is off the mark here.

If JW’s have the chance to have matters set straight and cleared up with them, why can’t any others regardless of the current understandings also? What matters is not recieveing the mark of the beast. Isn’t that what the judgement is based on.

    To UTT:

WTC is World Trade Center, what you mean is Watchtower Society, which is WTS.

Well I have often found dan ch12: intresting , it mentions the start of the great tribulation and then says verse 2: And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake ,some to everlasting life and some to everlasting shame and contempt.Verse 3: And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament , and " they that turn many to righteousness" as the stars of heaven for ever and ever.

Throughout the bible i have noticed Jehovah describes those who are turned away as having their head pushed into the dust of the earth. For example Jehovahs first prophecy of the 2 seeds of god and satan in gen ch3:14-15.

Surely dan 12 :2 can only properly be understood that many at the end will awake from spiritual sleep and then either choose satan or Jehovah.

I thought that was the whole intention of the symbolic 2 witnesses. To straighten everyone out so that there is a clear understanding. It may be true that most people aren't looking for truth, but on the other hand there are many sincere people who think they already know it all, hence, don't take the time to look for it.

There must be more revealing in time or who could possibly be saved with all the confusion out there, let alone the bible has been chopped up and reinterpreted several differnent ways throught the past centuries.

    Proxy, what's your opinion?

    February 6, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterguest

    Watchman,

I like your article here, but think your comment about the imminence of the deadline for gaining salvation is severely premature in the stream of developments yet to happen according to Scripture.

As for God 'granting salvation to people who know nothing about His purpose,' it is written that many will be surprised at being counted among the righteous in that day, saying to Christ: When did we see you in need and help you?

Yes, a great crowd of untold millions who simply put faith in Christ while fleeing the Churches and avoiding the mark of the beast, will in the real end - when it finally does come - be found worthy to inherit the earth, prepared for them from the founding of the world.

The WT-anointed, of course - like their forefathers, the Pharisees - would deem "this crowd that does not know the Law [of 'God's spirit-directed organization]" as "accursed people," unworthy of salvation.

Even faithful servants of YHWH can, at times, get wrapped up in this blind zeal for 'God's people,' because of not fully understanding just who He actually counts as such - as demonstrated by Jonah, who had no idea that in God's view, "he is not a Jew who is one on the outside" - discernable by man - "but he is a Jew who is one on the inside...the heart," where alone true membership of 'God's people' is established.

Of course, people who all along blindly swear by 'their religion - right or wrong,' are not likely to suddenly see the light when the hour of test and global deception arrives, so your advice about "today" being the day of salvation is well placed.

Yes, if we contemplate that 7 billion people will soon have their eternal destiny determined right here and now - while tens of billions of equally wicked ones will have the benefit of living for ten centuries in paradise, before a final decision is made on them -

we must not imagine God's judgment to be based on arbitrary determinants such as time and location, nor crude and frivolous considerations such as being in 'good standing' with those who would administer 'God's requirements' - or in regards to distinctions of beliefs held by an individual.

Just as Satan did not have to spend a literal 1000 years for taking Jesus on a full tour of 'all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,' before making his sales-pitch to Him,

so too, his NWO kingdom will, during a short period of 'freedom from care,' even into the fatness of the jurisdictional district, transform the earth into a veritable paradise to gloriously imitate Christ's millennial reign here and now, free to enjoy for all those signing up with the 'liberator' and 'benefactor' of mankind.

Those who accept his mark will be given full economic rights and privileges to live paradise here and now to the max, at a time when the "bands" of sickness and decay - placed by God on Adam and Eve at their ousting from Eden - will have been 'torn apart,' and when even the "cords" of death have been 'cast away' from mankind,

when truth is continually hurled to the ground so that even time and law are changed and the principles of cause and effect abolished, as mankind will become united again in one language, facilitated by electronic means and over the internet, so that "now there is NOTHING that they may have in mind to do that will be UNATTAINABLE for them" - while they blaspheme YHWY, His name and His residence.

The deception and temptation of joining the glorious 'incoming kingdom' will be so great as to mislead if possible even the chosen ones, who will then be out in force denouncing the 'new world' as a trap of Satan, until they are finally silenced, just before the real return of Christ on the clouds of heaven in power and glory, to exterminate all those taking pleasure in unrighteousness and rejecting the love of the truth, in preference to living the lie of the NWO.

First and foremost, Gods name will be sanctified. Jehovah will provide for the saving of souls. Only 8 souls were saved at the time of the flood, only a remnant returned from babylon. Jehovah is holding back the 4 winds of destruction, as he purposes, will there be time for all the poor people of India china south america to escape the coming destruction of this system and its inhabitants? in fact even those in more affluent countries going about there daily business not hurting anyone, will they have time to understand.? the last time our lord was on earth and gave a warning to his Disciples he provided an escape from the roman armies, for those who listened, and acted. Will it be any different now?

It is been my observation that many people in the world do not really know too much about Jehovah's witnesses, not really.

Oh yes they have knocked on just about every door in most countries, but still the majority of people do not know really the message that they preach.
They do however know of the watchtower and the Awake magazines.
Most of the people when you ask them about what they think of about Jehovah's Witnesses, would indicate to you that they are persistent and just a tad strange and trying to get you to take their literature.

Do people really understand what the Good News of the Kingdom is about, as Jesus had prophesied would be preached throughout the whole inhabited earth?

The Kingdom is being preached throughout the earth today by a variety of different Christian religions and groups through various methods, but not necessarily the Good News of the Kingdom as a reality or a state that will govern the way this planet will operate.

I would dare say that if you asked the average person what message Jehovah's Witnesses preach, they would not really be able to tell you this, though some of them might tell you that they were told something about the end.
But most would really not understand that the coming of the Kingdom actually means Good News for the world.

It is my understanding and belief that the ushering in of God's Kingdom means an opportunity for many to repent of their ways and learn the pure language of the Kingdom, but salvation already for those who have proved their faithfulness when Jesus comes.

The rest of the world who survive the great tribulation and Armageddon (those who do not have the mark of the wild beast), will have their opportunity to respond to the Kingdom rule and the blessings that it will provide all mankind, during the 1000 years without the influence of Satan.

After living under the blessings of this Kingdom, they would have no excuse to not except it and bring their lives in harmony with it, but apparently many will be influenced by Satan when he is released out of the abyss at the end of the thousand years.

The ultimate judgment will be at the close of the one thousand year period.

Since watchman is allowing the bits of song lyrics to stay up, I should mention they are for educational purposes only, and as such are covered by the fair use policy. the first one is a bit of Pink Floyd - Another brick in the wall the second is a bit of a song by Fozzy- balls to the wall, the third is some more of that same song by Fozzy, the fourth is a bit Jimi Hendrix- All along the watchtower, the fifth is a bit of Dream On- Aerosmith, the sixth is a bit of Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down, the seventh is the complete lyrics by POD- Masterpiece Conspiracy.
