In the aftermath of the Second World War and the king of the north's becoming "dejected," the angel tells Daniel the king will "go back" and he will, again, "act effectively." But, "effectively" against what?
Daniel 11:30 says: "And there will certainly come against him the ships of Kittim, and he will have to become dejected. And he will actually go back and hurl denunciations against the holy covenant and act effectively; and he will have to go back and will give consideration to those leaving the holy covenant."
The Watchtower's interpretation of this aspect of the prophecy attributes its fulfillment to post-World War One Germany and the rise of Nazism. Those "leaving the holy covenant" are supposedly the clergy of Christendom who supported Hitler. Never mind the fact that the clergy of Christendom have never been in a covenant with God—according to the Watchtower's view, their merely claiming to be in the Christian covenant is supposed to be what is implied in Daniel's prophecy.
The Nazi king of the north also is said to have hurled denunciations against the holy covenant by his persecutions of Jehovah's Witnesses. But since Hitler's Nazi scheme for world domination was a complete failure—as was his attempt to destroy Jehovah's Witnesses—in what way can it truly be said that Hitler acted "effectively"?
In accord with the evidence already presented it does not appear that Germany was ever the king of the north. Furthermore, instead of symbolizing the clergy, more reasonably, those described as "leaving the holy covenant" are those who were at one time anointed Christians but who have since become the "evil slaves" of Christ's illustrations.
Just as Judas had been an effective accomplice of the Roman king of the north, and the Roman king of the north was once also effective in seducing some of Christ's anointed followers leading up to and during the time of Constantine so that Christ's congregation was effectively swallowed up and over-shadowed by what became Christendom, so, too, with the emergence of Jehovah's Witnesses in modern times evidently the king of the north, in the guise of the London-centered empire, goes "back" to the technique of infiltrating Christ's congregation from within in order to control it. In this he may be said to "act effectively."
It is worth noting that Jesus Christ referred to the earthly throne of Satan in connection with his congregation. In commending a few anointed Christians in the Pergamum congregation, Jesus stated: "I know where you are dwelling, that is, where the throne of Satan is." Evidently Jesus' words are intended to acknowledge the influence upon the congregation due to its proximity to the throne of Satan. Keeping in mind that Jesus' letters to the seven symbolic congregations are really intended for those living during the Lord's Day, it becomes apparent that there is a specific capital associated with the Devil's government over the world in the present age. Of all the cities in the world, London appears to serve as Satan's throne in the modern world.
In order to appreciate the place London occupies today as a primary control-center for Satan's global empire and the impact it has had chiefly upon the United States, as well as the Watchtower and Jehovah's Witnesses, let us briefly consider the development and origin of modern religious thought and culture in Great Britain.
Following England's break with the Vatican, the ruling monarch became the head of the newly-formed Anglican Church of England. (This was before the British Empire developed) It was not long, though, until various kinds of Protestant reformers, collectively known as Puritans, broke free from the Crown's Anglican version of Catholicism. This resulted in years of bitter persecution for the Puritans, which eventually led to their immigration to America as the original Pilgrims, and ultimately to the establishment of the American republic in opposition to the British Empire.
Understandably, the King's Anglican Church had a difficult time establishing itself in early America. However, the Empire developed more subtle means of influencing and controlling religious and political thought.
After the Crown authorized the translation of the King James Version of the Bible in the early 1600s, London eventually became home to numerous Bible Societies and missionary groups. Perhaps inevitably, it wasn't long before the deepening interest in the Bible gave rise to the teaching of British Israelism and so-called Dispensationalism—or what is called today—Endtimes eschatology. Anglican clergyman, John Nelson Darby, is credited for popularizing such.
The most far-reaching aspect of British Israelism is Zionism, which has been adopted by virtually all Evangelical and Armageddonist sects and cults as an authentic Bible doctrine. Ultimately, through the "born-again" President George Bush, Zionism has apparently even become the cornerstone of American foreign policy—giving scriptural justification for Anglo-American military and political ventures in the Middle East. Not coincidently, Zionism today serves as a potential detonator for global nuclear war—the Zionist's version of Armageddon.
Through the doctrine of British Israelism and the secret apparatus of Masonry, apparently in some instances channeled through Anglo-American intelligence operatives, London has hatched, nurtured and controlled numerous sects and cults, such as so-called "Low-church" Pentecostalism, Armstrong's World Wide Church of God, as well as the 1960's "Jesus people" movement and the so-called Moonie Cult. The UN-promoting Bahai faith also appears to have connections to the Victorian British Empire; its founding prophet being an advocate of a political super-state.
The phenomenon known as the "holy laughter" hysteria, as an export of Lord Hutton's Holy Trinity Brompton Church's Alpha course, serves as the most recent example of the imperial oligarchy's machinations aimed at manipulating the unwary churchgoer. It is quite evident upon investigation that London uses religion to accomplish its geo-political goals of world domination—even if it is only to "dumb-down" society.
The common thread that seems to link all sects and cults together is the matrix of secret societies.
It is worth noting that the New Catholic Encyclopedia apparently recognizes the subversive intent of the upper levels of Masonry and even admits to the Catholic hierarchy being infiltrated by such. The article also posits that Jehovah's Witnesses are rumored to have Masonic origins.
So, where does the Watchtower stand in relation to London's religio-imperial control?
There has been speculation in recent years about Charles Taze Russell's connection to Masonry. Unfortunately, Pastor Russell was responsible for much of the ongoing confusion. In a public talk delivered in 1913, Russell spoke very favorably of Masonry. Although he plainly stated that he was not a Mason, his sermon revealed he was thoroughly familiar with Masonry, including the fact that the lower level initiates are not aware of the secrets of the upper-levels; and he also spoke of the Christian priesthood couched in the terminology peculiar to the Masons. Russell even declared that Christ was the master Mason—in the sense that he is the master temple builder. (Masons supposedly derive their name from Solomon's temple- building masons)
Although the stories of his supposedly being in the pedigreed bloodline of the mystical Illuminati have no basis in fact, Charles Russell and the early Bible Students were unquestionably heavily influenced by British-Israelism as it was expressed through the Millerite-Adventist groups of the 1800's.
While some of Russell's numerous enemies endeavor to portray him as a Satanist, it is obvious to those who love the truth that C.T. Russell was a deeply devoted child of God. Nevertheless, unfortunately, it is equally evident he was also influenced to some extent by Masonic mysteries. As a few examples, the cross inserted through the crown that used to appear on the cover of Russell's Watchtower magazine is evidently a prominent Masonic symbol. The ancient Egyptian symbol of the winged sun used to appear on numerous Watchtower books, and even though Russell justified its use by connecting it to Malachi 4:2, the Watchtower eventually wisely discontinued using occult symbols on their literature.
Russell's fascination with the pyramids also smacks of Masonry. For example, his dispensational pyramidal Chart of the Ages borrows from the same occult symbolism that appears on the Great Seal of the Federal Reserve Note. And to this day, Russell's gravesite memorial in Pennsylvania is marked by a Masonic pyramid.
In view of these inescapable facts, more than likely the Watchtower's use of those powerful occult symbols in the early days not only is evidence of their own influences, but the use of such no doubt also served as a signal to attract other Masons into the organization, and by those means the Watchtower Society has most assuredly been secretly infiltrated and no doubt subtly influenced by those, who, as the prophecy says, are "leaving the holy covenant."
In view of past successes of the Roman king of the north in subverting Christianity, and the many available evidences of London's efforts to control Christian sects in modern times, it is inconceivable that Satan the Devil would not make every effort to use these same earthly agents to overreach Jehovah's true servants.
But before examining further how the king of the north may have infiltrated Jehovah's Witnesses, let us briefly consider other ways in which the imperial king of the north has acted "effectively."
After the Second World War, the British Empire was faced with the challenge of a resurgent American king of the south, as well as a rapidly-growing New World Society of Jehovah's Witnesses. Thus, the Empire adopted new tactics. It has since become the strategy of the London oligarchy to not only doctrinally corrupt and control Christianity from within, but also to oppose it philosophically through atheism and paganism.
After the horrific destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ushered in the nuclear age, British Lord Bertrand Russell advocated a superpower Cold War stand-off between the Anglo-American dyad and the Soviet Union. Bertrand Russell's scheme was intended to terrorize the world into abandoning nationalism and accepting the United Nations as world government.
After WWII, London's Tavistock Institute set about on a decades-long campaign of mass brainwashing, for the purpose of corrupting and demoralizing Western Civilization. The newly-invented technology of television became a powerful tool in the hands of the oligarchy, not only as a propaganda tool, but as a means to take their version of the Roman Empire's "bread and circuses" policy of population pacification to a whole new level.
After the mind-jolting trauma of the Cuban missile crisis and the assassinations of key American leaders during the 1960's, including President Kennedy, the Empire promoted the use of LSD and the drug-sex-rock & roll counter-culture in order to mass-induce cultural pessimism and hedonism in their ongoing war against the Renaissance and Christianity. It is no secret that many of the most famous rock stars from the original wave of the appropriately named "British Invasion," were hedonists, occultists and even disciples of depraved British Satanist, Aleister Crowley.
For example, the release in 1967 of the Rolling Stones' album entitled Satanic Majesty's Request and their hugely popular song, Sympathy for the Devil, leaves little doubt as to the source of their musical inspiration. Mick Jagger's recent knighthood by the Queen of England would seem to be a reward for services rendered to the Crown.
The "God is dead" campaign that burst on the scene during the turbulent 60's was directed against Christianity—not against the then-emerging New Age cult.
The intended result was that the cultural and scientific advances by the king of the south, which culminated with men walking on the moon, were effectively reversed in one generation by a wave of paganism and anti-science environmentalism in the name of saving Mother earth—Gaia. Society was made to believe that Christian culture and scientific progress was responsible for ruining the world.
By attacking the moral foundation of biblical Christianity, the imperial king of the north would "hurl denunciations against the holy covenant and act effectively."
Daniel 11:31 will be discussed further on in this essay.
"He will lead into apostasy by means of smooth words"
The span of verses from Daniel 11:32-35 foretells how the king of the north will influence God's people more directly. Daniel 11:32 indicates that the king of the north poses a direct challenge to the faith and integrity of Jehovah's Witnesses. It reads: "And those who are acting wickedly against the covenant, he will lead into apostasy by means of smooth words. But as regards the people who are knowing their God, they will prevail and act effectively."
According to the Watchtower's interpretation of the prophecy, it is Christendom that is led deeper into worldliness by the smooth words of the Communistic king of the north. But, as discussed previously, since Christendom has been apostate since its inception, as well as serves as an integral component of Satan's world, it is simply unreasonable that the scriptures should describe Christendom as being led more and more into apostasy at this advanced stage of the world's affairs.
Nevertheless, the Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy commentary states: "After the war church leaders tried to maintain that friendship, despite the atheistic policy of the power that was now the king of the north. Thus, Christendom became more than ever a part of this world—a disgusting apostasy in Jehovah's eyes."
How, then, is Daniel's prophecy to be understood?
Jesus' letters to the seven congregations in Revelation reveals the answer. Contrary to the Watchtower's myth that Jehovah's Witnesses live in spiritual paradise, Jesus' letters indicate that anointed Christians are subject to all manner of deception from within the congregations up until Jesus Christ arrives to initiate the judgment of God's household.
For example, two congregations put up with the sect of Nicolaus, a sect that Christ Jesus hated. Jesus also rebuked the congregation in Thyatira because they tolerated the immoral presence and prophesying of "Jezebel." It is apparent in the context that "Jezebel" was not an outside influence, but rather, her wickedness emanated from within the congregation. That is why Jesus indicated he was going to kill off Jezebel and her children during the great tribulation "so that all the congregations will know that I am he who searches the kidney and hearts, and I will give to you individually according to your deeds." Obviously, the influence of "Jezebel" is/was very subtle, perhaps nearly undetectable, which is why Jesus said that the judgment of "Jezebel" would be as a result of his piercing X-ray-like vision.
Jesus also rebuked the Pergamum congregation because some of its members were "holding fast the teaching of Balaam, who went teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication."
In both cases, "Jezebel" and "Balaam" constituted a seductive, apostate influence upon Christ's followers from within the congregations. Interestingly, in the historical case of Balaam, the prophet advised a foreign king how best to corrupt and mislead Jehovah's people.
It is in that sense, then, that we must understand how the king of the north exercises an apostate influence over God's people through "those who are acting wickedly against the covenant."
The Christian covenant has to do with Christ sharing his kingdom with his anointed followers. At Revelation 2:26-27, Jesus stated to the congregation afflicted with the immoral Jezebel: "And to him that conquers and observes my deeds down to the end I will give authority over the nations, and he shall shepherd the people with an iron rod so that they will be broken to pieces like clay vessels, the same as I have received from my Father.
On the night of the Lord's evening meal, Jesus concluded a kingdom covenant with his apostles—and by extension, with all anointed Christians. Since Christ's kingdom is no part of this world, Christians must also be no part of the world. Those "acting wickedly against the covenant" are apostates who violate their covenant with Jehovah and Christ by becoming part of Satan's world.
Fitting the pattern outlined in Daniel's prophecy, in recent years the Watchtower, as the mouthpiece for anointed Christians dedicated to God and his kingdom, has indeed violated Christ's kingdom covenant.
While the Watchtower Magazine has carried the sub-caption "Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom," the organization also signed an NGO pact with the United Nations, which essentially required the Watchtower Society to use its resources and influence to disseminate information regarding the United Nation's agenda for global government. By their treachery, certain men in high places within the Watchtower Society were unquestionably acting wickedly against Christ's kingdom covenant. (See essays The Watchtower as an NGO, Plumbing the Depths of the Watchtower's Prostitution)
When publicly called to account for such brazen hypocrisy, the Watchtower denied any wrong-doing and stated in their defense that the original application for NGOs did not contain any wording that violated their Christian neutrality. However, a thorough investigation of the facts at hand has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that the Watchtower is not being truthful and upfront with Jehovah's Witnesses. The Watchtower has been put to the test and found to be liars. (See Revelation 2:2)
But in what way, though, might the king of the north have misled the leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses into apostasy by "smooth words"?
Well, "smooth words" might indicate flattering speech or deceptive, counterfeit words. As previously published in the Who is the King of the North?, the rationale for the oligarchy's New World Order and the Watchtower's message of God's new order are nearly indistinguishable.
Consider a few similarities: Those who advocate a new world order cite the inability of national governments to cooperate in enacting effective environmental laws to prevent rampant pollution. So does the Watchtower.
Those who advocate a new world order cite wars between the nations as the rationale for doing away with competing national governments. So does the Watchtower.
Those who advocate a new world order cite the ineffectiveness of national governments in dealing with international terrorism as the basis for global government. So does the Watchtower.
The oligarchy behind the new world order wants to discourage youth from getting a classical education. So does the Watchtower.
Virtually every social problem facing the nations today, be it over-population, pollution, drugs, crime or poverty, is used by the Empire as the rationale for doing away with national sovereignties in favor of global government. In this, the Watchtower appears to mimic the globalists.
But the mimicry goes further than that and stretches back to the attachment Jehovah's Witnesses have to the year 1914.
Jehovah's Witnesses have been led to believe that Satan initially set up the League of Nations as a counterfeit kingdom in direct response to God's kingdom coming to power in 1914. However, the opposite appears to be the case. In what sense?
Amazingly, the Watchtower appears to have imitated the nations, in that the Watchtower did not even begin to point to 1914 as the date for the establishment of Christ's kingdom until some years later—well after London had already established their hoped-for world government in the form of the League of Nations.
Prior to that, the Watchtower had taught that Christ's presence had begun in 1874 and that 1914 would see the break up and overthrow of all the nations. When those expectations were dashed, only decades afterwards did the Society formulate the doctrine that has persisted to the present regarding Christ's kingdom being established in 1914.
But, how reasonable is it that the nations were supposedly thrown into tumult and then banded together as one under the banner of the now-defunct League of Nations before it was even announced to them that Messiah's kingdom had begun ruling? Put another way, is it sensible to suppose that men counterfeited God's kingdom before Jehovah's servants were even aware that the kingdom had commenced ruling?
Of course, Satan the Devil was aware of the emergence of the International Bible Students movement and it would obviously suit his purpose to subvert Christ's congregation and make it subservient to his own beastly kingdom—the throne of Satan. It appears that through Balaam-like agents the Devil has enjoyed a measure of success.
However, Jehovah's true witnesses have also acted effectively against the Devil and against the king of the north. How so? The remainder of verse 32 and 33 say: "But as regards the people who are knowing their God, they will prevail and act effectively. And as regards those having insight among the people, they will impart understanding to the many. And they will certainly be made to stumble by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plundering, for some days."
Jesus Christ once stated: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."
There is no organization on earth that has championed the cause of the truth, other than the Watchtower and Jehovah's Witnesses. In spite of all of the prophetic miscues and organizational chicanery, the Watchtower has succeeded in imparting the true faith into the hearts of receptive ones. The truth about Jehovah and Christ; their true relationship with each other; the meaning of the ransom; the issues of Jehovah's sovereignty and Christian integrity; Jehovah's purpose to destroy the Devil's kingdom over the world and usher in a paradise under Christ's kingdom—these are the core truths that have strengthened Jehovah's Witnesses to "act effectively" against the enemy. In spite of itself, the Watchtower has imparted vital spiritual insights to millions of people around the world.
It should be pointed out, that the prophecy does not specifically say that the king of the north directly devotes Jehovah's servants to the sword and flame, captivity and plundering. It merely states that in spite of the king of the north's effective efforts against God's people, they will prevail over the stumbling blocks before them. So, it is that many nations of the world have persecuted Jehovah's Witnesses, subjecting them to prison, banning and even death. No doubt Jehovah's Witnesses have been able to prevail because of "knowing their God."
It is worth noting, though, that some of the worst persecutions of Jehovah's Witnesses, excepting that from the Nazis and Soviets, has come from the British Commonwealth nation of Malawi.
Daniel's prophecy continues in the same vein, where we read: "But when they are made to stumble they will be helped with a little help; and many will certainly join themselves to them by means of smoothness. And some of those having insight will be made to stumble, in order to do a refining work because of them and to do a cleansing and to do a whitening, until the time of the end; because it is yet for the time appointed."
In the Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy book, the Watchtower assigns the fulfillment of the verse above to Communist infiltration of a few congregations in the former USSR. The Society comments: "The infiltrators caused some faithful ones to fall into the hands of the authorities. Jehovah allowed such things to happen for a refining and a cleansing of his people."
However, even assuming the USSR was once in the role of the king of the north, the prophecy does not specifically state that the king of the north caused the stumbling—at least not directly. Some of those with insight who are made to stumble are more than likely brothers associated more directly with the Watchtower. The stumbling comes about as a result of the Society's well-publicized errors, which many seize upon as a pretext for abandoning their faith.
"They will profane the sanctuary"
Returning to the 31st verse: After decades of running a war of persecution, propaganda and subversion against Christianity, the king of the north finally commits himself to a full-scale invasion of the domain of Christ Jesus, as it is represented on the earth by his anointed followers. Hence, we read at Daniel 11:31:
"And there will be arms that will stand up, proceeding from him; and they will actually profane the sanctuary, the fortress, and remove the constant feature. And they will certainly put in place the disgusting thing that is causing desolation."
What are the "arms that will stand up, proceeding from" the king of the north? And when does the sanctuary, fortress and constant feature come in line for profanation?
The Watchtower's interpretation of the verse above ascribes its fulfillment to Hitler's vicious persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses and to the setting up of the League of Nations. However, there are numerous discrepancies with the Watchtower's teaching.
While there is no question that Adolph Hitler hated Jehovah's Witnesses and vowed to exterminate the "Bible Worms" from Germany, the primary difficulty with attributing the fulfillment of Daniel 11:31 to the Nazis persecution is that the 8th chapter of Daniel uses nearly the exact same terminology.
Consider Daniel 8:11-12, which reads: "And all the way to the Prince of the army it put on great airs, and from him the constant feature was taken away, and the established place of his sanctuary was thrown down. And an army itself was gradually given over, together with the constant feature, because of transgression; and it kept throwing truth to the earth, and it acted and had success."
The discrepancy arises from the fact that the Watchtower assigns the fulfillment of Daniel 8:11-12 to the Anglo-American persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses during World War Two. We read in the Paying Attention to Daniel's Prophecy commentary on page 176:
What was the experience of Jehovah's Witnesses during World War II? They suffered intense persecution! It started in Nazi and Fascist countries. But soon 'truth was being thrown to the earth' throughout the vast domain of the 'small horn whose power had become mighty.' "The army" of Kingdom proclaimers and their work of preaching "the good news" were banned in almost all of the British Commonwealth. (Mark 13:10) When these nations conscripted their manpower, they refused to grant ministerial exemption to Jehovah's Witnesses, showing no respect for their theocratic appointment as ministers of God. Mob violence and various indignities were experienced by Jehovah's faithful servants in the United States. The seventh world power, in effect, tried to take away a sacrifice of praise—"the fruit of lips"—regularly offered to Jehovah by his people as "the constant feature" of their worship. (Hebrews 13:15) That world power thus committed the "transgression" of invading the rightful domain of the Most High God—"the established place of his sanctuary."
The questions Jehovah's Witnesses ought to ask is, How many constant features are there anyway? How many different sanctuaries does God have that are violated by the nations at various times? If the king of the north and the king of fierce countenance both take away the constant feature and throw down Christ's sanctuary, isn't it obvious that the king of the north and the king of fierce countenance are the same entity?
To compound the Watchtower's interpretive quandary, the 8th chapter of Daniel also connects the removal of the constant feature and the overthrow of the sanctuary to the desolation and trampling of the holy place. Daniel 8:13 reads: "And I got to hear a certain holy one speaking, and another holy one proceeded to say to the particular one who was speaking: "How long will the vision be of the constant feature and of the transgression causing desolation, to make both the holy place and the army things to trample on?"
The Watchtower goes to great lengths in applying Daniel 8:13 to the persecutions of Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as some trivial and obscure organizational adjustments made before and during the Second World War. However, as all of Jehovah's Witnesses know, in the oft-quoted 24th chapter of Matthew the foremost prophet of Jehovah, the Lord Jesus, specifically referred the reader to the prophecy of Daniel when relating how a disgusting thing would cause desolation and trample upon a holy place during the time of the great tribulation.
According to the Watchtower, though, the holy place Christ referred to represents Christendom and the disgusting thing is the United Nations.
In a clear violation of the natural harmony of the prophecies, the Watchtower makes no connection whatsoever of the disgusting thing that desolates the holy place to Daniel's prophecy, beyond the obvious 1st Century fulfillment of Daniel 9:26-27. Obviously, the Watchtower Society is not using discernment, as Jesus advised. (See essay: Let the Reader Use Discernment)
The Watchtower teaches that the holy place, sanctuary and constant feature of prophecy was simultaneously trampled by the Nazis and the British Commonwealth more than 50 years ago, (King of the north and south according to the Watchtower) and in the future, the United Nations will also trample on the "holy place" of Christendom.
Confusing? Absolutely! But it gets worse!
The Watchtower also resolutely insists that the biblically appointed time arrived in 1914 for the end of the period, when the nations were allowed to trample on God's holy place; even though according to the Society's commentary on the 11th chapter of Revelation, the nations also trampled the holy place during the First World War. (See essay: Was 1914 the End of the Gentile Times?)
And if that were not confusing enough, the Watchtower says that the "transgression," referred to at Daniel 8:12 & 13, is on the part of the king of fierce countenance—not on the part of the army of the Prince that comes to desolation.
In that regard, the Society's self-serving interpretations are in direct contradiction of Isaiah 43:28; the very chapter from which Jehovah's Witnesses have derived our unique name, where we read concerning God's witnesses: "Your own father, the first one, has sinned, and your own spokesmen have transgressed against me. So I shall profane the princes of the holy place, and I will give Jacob over as a man devoted to destruction and Israel over to words of abuse."
What a torturous and contradictory mess the Watchtower Society has made of God's precious prophetic word!
The only way to reconcile and harmonize the Bible's numerous interlocking prophecies is by allowing God's Word to interpret itself.
For starters, we should recognize that Jesus' words— "when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place, (let the reader use discernment)"—are directing the discerning reader primarily to Daniel 11:31. The diligent student of prophecy should also discern the obvious fact that the primary fulfillment of the desolation of God's holy place and sanctuary applies directly to Christ's congregation, not to unholy Christendom, and it occurs as a central feature of an enveloping great tribulation.
The overlapping, complementary prophecy in the 8th chapter is in complete harmony with the fact that Christ's sanctuary is violated during the tribulation, in that at Daniel 8:19 the angel told Daniel the prophecy applied to the time of the end, saying: "Here I am causing you to know what will occur in the final part of the denunciation, because it is for the appointed time of the end." (See essay: What and When is the Time of the End?)
Returning, then, to the scripture under discussion, Daniel 11:31, which refers to the profanation of Jehovah's "sanctuary" and "fortress"; the removal of "the constant feature" and the installation of the "disgusting thing that is causing desolation," appears to apply to "the time of the end." Apparently, the prophecy is not to be taken in strict chronologic sequential ordering from one verse to the next—as we have come to view it.
The desolating "arms" that "will stand up, preceding from him," that is from the king of the north, is evidently in reference to the establishment of the United Nations as the future desolator of God's holy place.
Daniel's foretelling that "they will certainly put in place the disgusting thing," harmonizes with the prophecy of Revelation that calls for the two-horned Anglo-American entity ("they") to breathe live into an inanimate idolatrous image of the beastly political system. So, while the United Nations appears to be an Anglo-American creation, it is in keeping with the oligarchy's goal of world empire and hence, the scheme originates with the imperial king of the north.
As for placing the actual occurrence of the desolation of the holy place in the context of Daniel's prophecy, it would appear that Daniel 11:40-41 situates that event in the context of the king of the north's final push for global domination. Hence, we read: "And in the time of the end the king of the south will engage with him in a pushing, and against him the king of the north will storm with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships; and he will certainly enter into the lands and flood over and pass through. He will also actually enter into the land of the Decoration..."
